CNN Scanners' effectiveness in question

This information needs to get out along with the privacy issues. Why get groped and gawked at when there are effectivity issues??

CNN International had a lengthy segment on the controversy last night, surprisingly uninformed even by American standards. The anchor asked their specialist... Richard Quest... ie: another CNN anchor... questions like "are there any better options [than NoS]?" to which Quest answered something like "no there aren't right now."
Really? Not dogs? Or explosive detectors?
Overall not really pro or anti scanner though.

That was amazing. One of the best pieces of journalism I've seen in a long time. A real smoking gun. Is this Obama's Watergate? Should we be talking about impeachment? The scanners don't even work for their intended purpose. I can't quite imagine how that is not a problem to people who advocate them. This is government corruption at its worst. The classified performance report is convincing evidence that the TSA is well aware that the scanners don't actually work. Presumably they would detect a plastic knife, but that's about it. Not much of a reason to change our whole way of life.

2 things:
1. Sanjay is awesome. For all the krap he gets, he is a great journalist, great surgeon, and hails from the D.
2. How much criticism would the White House get if it were still Bush?
I think both democrats and republicans would agree a TON.

Why do you say that? Did you watch the whole thing? It doesn't seem "unclear" at all. There are whole classes of explosives that the devices won't detect at all. Whether it actually would have detected the underwear bomber is actually less important. Here is real evidence that the machines don't work for the main purpose they were being sold on. The pro-scanner spokeswoman was even forced to say that no device is perfect. The devices don't work, plain and simple. The only thing left to see is whether they really can detect ceramic and FRP knives, which would be the sole point of these devices.

Still not getting reported
So, they showed this segment on CNN, but NONE of their regular news anchors seemed to have watched it, so unless you tune in just for this, you have no idea. The other main media outlets aren't reporting much on this, either. They are still giving the TSA a pass about how we need this to be safe, etc.
If the anti-scanner movement is to gain any momentum, we need to convince/show the sheeple that these are not only an invasion of privacy but they are also not effective.

The reason it's important to emphasize this point is that the underwear bomber incident is often used as a justification for the use of scanners. That their effectiveness is in question clearly undermines that argument.
