Today at ORD

First there was a long line. Way longer than usual for a Sunday night. While waiting I started a conversation with the lady behind me. I pointed out that 70% of the people going through the Nude o Scope were women. We watched for a while and it turned out it was true.

It was very subtle because the doc checker told women that both lines were open. It was not said to males.

She got behind me in the WTMD line and put her things behind mine. I looked behind me and she was gone. The TSA came by and took her to the NOS line.

On the other side she was horrified about it. She felt somewhat intimidated by their actions even though the TSA was not bothering with the grope as the lines were so long. When I left her she was calling her girlfriend who would be through the same line in few minutes.

A while later in the book store another lady asked me if I had gone through the X Ray machine. I told her no that I had opted out. She did not know she could. She also noticed that it was mostly women going through the NOS.

At least I educated two people today.

I will state this as delicately as possible and hope that my meaning is not obfuscated by the delicacy.

Is it possible, even remotely, that the reason that females seem to disproportionally chosen is that upon the viewing of the nude scan it is entirely less likely that a secondary would be necessary to resolve an anomaly since the area in and around the genital area as it is less obstructed from detection of something that needs to be checked further? In other words, cavities excluded, there is less stuff to hide stuff behind and under, so they are picking people they can easily clear and not have to do the resolution pat down.

I may be totally off base, but combined with the "Hottie Alert" effect, it could add to the difference.

These machines cannot see UP into the "deepest recesses" of the crotch - which is why the chance that they would have caught the underwear bomber is said to be a bit over 60%.

I think it's probably the "Hottie Alert" effect as you state. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn at some time that male clerk-voyeurs are making agreements with the clerks outside the scanners to send good looking women their way.

I'll go with the perception that some would have that the females would be less likely to resist authority (even if perceived to be most likely to be offended).

I noticed an extremely long set of security lines at PIT as I exited last night. I mean, there's only about 5 flights left at the time I landed. I could not tell if they had added equipment while I was out of town. Guess I'll find out later in the week when I fly.

That was my guess too.

Went through ORD yesterday, got the pat-down, asked for a name. STSO gave me his name, nice enough fellow. Asked why I wanted it, I explained that in case there was ever a civil liberties lawsuit I wanted to know who had touched me. This prompted a TSM and "Do you want to fly today" implied threat.

They took my name/BP details, made a cell call and sent me on my way. Anyone know what they do with the info they collect, this is the second time in as many days I have had my name and info taken down by the TSA for asking for a name.

It makes me think of a short story I read in elementary/middle school about a society in which children are tested at a certain age, and if they're too smart they're never heard from again. Smart people ask questions.

Another actual or implied threat. It's intended to make you think you're going to end up on a list.

Wonder what would happen if you FOIA'd it.

I think so to.
TSO just has not met me since the new rules.

They will regret it.
