It would be interesting to see if men are more likely to funnel women to the scanner. If you're a man and you send a woman to the scanner and there's a problem or she opts out, your female colleague will have to deal with it, not you or any of your male buddies.

I (no longer a hottie) was pulled from the WTMD to the NOS line by a man, and when I opted out all he had to do was call for a female TSO. Not his problem.

You were pulled from the WTMD to the NOS line?

These employees are going to have a problem with "I'll just stay on the line that I'm in, thanks?"

And what gives him the right to put his hands on you in the first place?

I was "pulled" in the sense that as I came close to the front of the WTMD line, I was told by a male TSO to get out of the WTMD line and go through the scanner instead. He didn't physically drag me to the scanner.

I assumed that once I was told to go through the scanner, I couldn't go back to the WTMD, and that assumption seems to have been confirmed by anecdotal reports of people unsuccessfully trying to do that. I saw my options as scan or grope, although as we've now learned, I apparently had the third option of being threatened with a $11k fine.
