Went through ORD yesterday, got the pat-down, asked for a name. STSO gave me his name, nice enough fellow. Asked why I wanted it, I explained that in case there was ever a civil liberties lawsuit I wanted to know who had touched me. This prompted a TSM and "Do you want to fly today" implied threat.
They took my name/BP details, made a cell call and sent me on my way. Anyone know what they do with the info they collect, this is the second time in as many days I have had my name and info taken down by the TSA for asking for a name. |
noticed the same
Since you can observe the checkpoints (2 out of 3) at DEN from above, I spent about ten minutes on Saturday looking at the screenings when the lines were very short. There were absolutely more women than men sent through the scanners (70% sounds about right). Also observed a full patdown - the lady had to lift up her shirt - bare skin underneath. The clerk going into the lady's pants was about the worst moment, the genitalia touching was very brief (but I am sure no less invasive). All other patdowns that I happened to notice were local patdowns. Also saw a clerk going through someone's wallet pulling out some receipts and such. Unbelievable!
I am going to need lots of booze next time I have to fly. |

OK, I've been out of the USA for about two years and this is ALL new to me. They actually go INTO your clothes? I was imagining that all the touching was done from the outside, with at least your clothes as a barrier.
This is just sick. |

This is just sick. "The 2nd agent had me lift my sweater up and she felt down into the waistband of my slacks about two inches." Not an isolated experience. Enhanced patdown SOP. |

Don't worry. Our forum TSOs posting here have said it never happens, so all those reports are OBVIOUSLY false...
;) |

This "security system" cannot be fixed. It should be dynamited. |

I'll go with the perception that some would have that the females would be less likely to resist authority (even if perceived to be most likely to be offended).

Wednesday, 11/23
I allowed extra time for long lines and opting out this morning, but I could have slept another hour. Only two people were ahead of me in the T1 elite security line at 6:30, and only the metal detector was open. As I walked the length of the security area, I saw only two nude-o-scopes in use; the rest were roped off. I wonder if this will be SOP tomorrow.
I admit I was thankful I didn't have to face an opt-out and spent the time in the lounge instead. |
I agree that the disproportionate funneling of women through the whole-body scanner likely happens for multiple reasons, including the "hottie" effect and the assumption that we're compliant. I also wonder if there's a buddy system involved in which male TSOs are helping other male TSOs avoid having to do pat-downs on men.
It would be interesting to see if men are more likely to funnel women to the scanner. If you're a man and you send a woman to the scanner and there's a problem or she opts out, your female colleague will have to deal with it, not you or any of your male buddies. I (no longer a hottie) was pulled from the WTMD to the NOS line by a man, and when I opted out all he had to do was call for a female TSO. Not his problem. |

http://www.amazon.com/Giver-Lois-Lowry/dp/0440237688 I read that around that age and it's what popped into my mind when I read your comment. |
