Get TSO Names!!

I am getting tired of reading about these stories where the TSO's are not actually identified.

I think when someone has a dealing with a TSO (such as a "grope" or "enhanced pat down") they demand the TSOs first and last name, and try to get a picture too?

Then when sharing the story, here or on a blog, they can post this information publicly.

They are not giving out their names and legally they do not have to. I doubt they will allow you to photograph them.

TSA has officially stated (via the TSA Blog) that you can take photos at the checkpoint, just not of the displays / monitors there. Blogger Bob posted the following:

We dont prohibit public, passengers or press from photographing, videotaping, or filming at screening locations. You can take pictures at our checkpoints as long as youre not interfering with the screening process or slowing things down. We also ask that you do not film or take pictures of our monitors.
All TSO officers should be wearing a name tag with their last name and their position/rank. Also, many airports the TSOs have a card with their photo and both the first and last name, so you may not need to ask them for the name. The TSA directive is below:

Nametags: Officers shall wear a TSA issued nametag. The nametag will be worn on the right side of the chest.

Flyertalk prohibits posting names. Always get the name, but don't post it here.

Guard Others' Privacy
With the exception of public figures, do not post names, addresses, phone numbers or e-mails of other FlyerTalk members. This information will be removed by moderators. Respect the privacy of non-management travel service employees by not referring to them by name.

I suggest that if a TSA employee is confident that what they are doing is aboveboard then they should have no problem giving some form of identifying information on request.

If they will not I would consider them to just be cowards.

Well, post a photo that shows the name tag, then.

Why is Flyertalk censoring posts with TSO names?

It's up to the discretion of the moderators. Typically if you post a full name of a front line employee "Joe Smith from CLT" they will censor it. If you just have Officer Smith and don't mention the airport they may not. I think right now the mods are overwhelmed with the activity on this forum so names may stay up for a while if posted. YMMV

The opposition argument to the TSA's actions one where the high ground is ours to lose. By all means get the name for any formal complaints channels but lets not start calling out the front line TSOs, no matter how bad, by name here.

When I did security back in '96 for a private company, we HAD to give our names if asked. I will be bringing pen & paper next time to the airport, if they don't like it, they can call a LEO. I'm sick of this Nazi state at the airports. Someone with nothing to hide should have no problem giving me their name.

It is not difficult to name names, post photos and stay within the boundaries of the FlyerTalk Terms-of-Service.

Go to www.blogger.com (aka www. blogspot.com) and create your own blog. Write up & post a description (preferably accurate) along with names, photographs, videos, whatever, on your blog. As a bonus, Google owns blogger.com, and BlogSpot blogs end up in Google almost immediately.

Within FT, keep your posts within the prescribed boundaries, but you can reference external information, e.g. your blog.

I got this back from Blogger Bob:

Officers are required to show you the name and number on their nameplate. Thats why its there. Have you used the Got Feedback program? If not, please take a look: http://www.tsa.gov/gotfeedback

Thanks,
