The C3 checkpoint for CO at EWR has one MMW in the farthest right lane, and the rest of the area is WTMD. They also do the idiotic BP check after WTMD, but that's a different discussion

Answering my own question about FLL as I went through it today. At T3 they had three lanes crammed into the CP area. It was very crowded and they were herding people through. We ended up in the right lane that had both WTMD and the BKSX. The middle lane only had a WTMD and it MIGHT be possible to preselect this lane but we were't able to since it was so crowded we were herded into the other line.

But for some unknown reason we lucked out. They only sent some people into the BkSX and told others (us!) just to go to the WTMD. I saw no rhyme or reason to their decisions.
Thx!! Will report on my own experience shortly as well...

Anyone been through the UA C/P in BOS lately? Top of this thread still says possible SDOO by staying to the left, but TSA status has 5/3 report that indicates everyone sent through the NoS. Normally I would just go to MHT but a $1000 fare difference is sorely tempting me...

Unhappy

At PHX, is there any way to enter the secure area at Terminal 3 (no backscatter) and then walk through/to the secure area of Terminal 2, and thus avoid the NOS?

It looks to me like the "walkway" between T2 and T3 is outside the "secure area." I avoid PHX whenever possible, as my TSA experience there has been a real horror show, not just "crotch-grabbing," but actual palpation of anal cleft and pubic hair. Truly disgusting.

The walkway is not only outside the secure area, it is outside.

You cannot even pass from the T3 north concourse to the T3 south concourse without reclearing security. Just depart PHX on AA, DL, B6, FL, or F9 and you'll be fine!

Thanks, Tanic!

I found this out for myself very early yesterday, when at least it was not sweltering (yet). Literally outside. It always surprises me when people who are based there go on and on about how they love Sky Harbor Airport.

Being a *A flyer, I was flying on CO, so I was stuck with T2 security, who were not quite as bad as T4, but still pretty awful. At least today when flying from CLT, I can use the NOS-free checkpoint.

TLV (Ben-Gurion Airport - Israel) only uses WTMDs, and has no plans to start using NoS

I have some updates/corrections for the list from my recent travels...

ATL
In the main checkpoint, the lanes with the MMW are actually 12-15 (not 13-16), and 21-22 (lanes 23 and 24 do not exist). In the south checkpoint lanes 2/3 and 4 have the MMW (a total of 2 MMW devices) and lane 1 is WTMD-only.

SRQ
There are 3 MMW devices, which means that each pair of lanes has the NOS.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

BHM is clear at both checkpoints (the WN one has construction though to "modernize" it, or so they say).

MDW has one, at the far right of the main checkpoint area. Stay left, or go down the right and head in to the "other" areas behind the wall.

STL E terminal has one in the middle lane. Easy to self select the other lanes. The elite line takes you to a WTMD lane.

Lane 4: Backscatter only?

Lane 5: WTMD only
Lane 6: Backscatter only (Elite line; no crossover allowed)

Note that the elite line on the far right feeds directly into Lane 6 and crossover (self-opt-out) to Lane 5 did not appear possible due to a blue lane divider.

Accordingly, I skipped the elite line entrance on the right and entered at the general entrance on the left to access Lanes 1/2.
Thanks for the info.

I haven't flown out of LAX since May '10. When you say you "entered at the general entrance" do you mean that you didn't take the escalator from the side with First/Business check in?

Or do you mean, that you accessed security by the "elite" escalator and that when you came to the entrance of the security area you chose to go to the left side?

FLL - Concourse C (Terminal 1 - CO, VA, AirTran) has BKSX as primary for lanes 2 and 3. Lane 1 is still WTMD!!

(It seemed that you would need to be elite to access lane 1, because if not elite, you would need to cut across the security area which TSOs didn't seem so happy about.

Having gone through FLL Concourse C recently, this is sort of correct.
From left to right as you enter (with right being closest to the ticketing counters and Concourse B), the lines are numbered 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Line 5 is the WTMD, the one on the LEFT. Lines 4/3 and 2/1 each feed a BKSX. In these lines, BKSX is primary.
There were two checkers in the middle, which feed the lines. Because the elite line goes to the left checker, it's very easy to just head left. However, the checkers are close to each other. You could wait for the left checker, or because line 5 is faster, I saw several people cut across to it "naturally".
