There are 6 security lanes (baggage x-ray machines). From the left (East / general entrance):
Lanes 1/2: WTMD only (safe)

Accordingly, I skipped the elite line entrance on the right and entered at the general entrance on the left to access Lanes 1/2.

I haven't flown out of LAX since May '10. When you say you "entered at the general entrance" do you mean that you didn't take the escalator from the side with First/Business check in?
Or do you mean, that you accessed security by the "elite" escalator and that when you came to the entrance of the security area you chose to go to the left side?
