This.

Female, opt out. I also refuse to submit a fingerprint to cash a check.

We are no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. We're now the land of the scanned, probed, fingerprinted, profiled and home of the bullied, intimidated, threatened, and herded.

Unless some of us are actually willing to stand up to this crap and refuse to go further, they will keep going further.

Male, 34. Married with kids.

I haven't had to use the NoS yet, but will be travelling home to the US for Thanksgiving. We only see the TSA maybe twice per year, and have not had a problem with them yet. Due to our limited contact with TSA, we both can tolerate their presence but agree that they are not operating in a correct way.

We have decided to opt out if our paths cross the NoS (I need to check if ORD has them). As your question relates to gender, my wife feels the same about opting out from the NoS.

Female, mid-thirties, NOS hater.

Personally, my refusal to do so is a mixture of the privacy issue, the possible data leak issues, and the radiation. My biggest gripe however, is that I don't believe that a US citizen should be subjected to this kind of scrutiny when travelling within our own borders.

So you don't mind if visitors are treated like this? Should that "a US citizen" not be "anyone"? ;)

Male, 50 and I will never, ever submit to the NoS. The only way I will go through one is when I'm dead and they'll still have to drag me through it kickin' and screamin' :D!

Until then, I refuse to travel to the US and be to forced to go through this travesty they call 'security.' (And I'm a US citizen).

And they sure as hell ain't getting my tax money......time for a million man demonstration against this bullsh*t.

I always opt out.

I too have noticed, sadly, that so many people, mostly infrequent flyers say they will do whatever to "feel" safer.
:(

I'm female. I would not opt out, not because I would "feel safer" but because I want to catch my flight. It's all part of the "security circus".

Additionally, at my age (69) I am much more likely to traumatize the screener than to be traumatized by the process! ;)

It may have just been coincidence that the OP's other forum was mostly female. There's a large segment of the population, male and female, that are averse to critical thinking. Perhaps the subject matter of the other forum just attracts that type?

Female - 67 - not yet experienced the opportunity to opt out of NOS but hate with a passion the illusion that the TSA is doing anything to keep the skies safe and the attendant abrogation of the rights of travelers.

bluebird09 Oct 12, 2010 6:04 am

Since ever then that we discovered that even a diplomatic bag can be opened just for "security reasons" .. Of course, I complained about this and I really hope that this guy losts his job afterwards. - Yes, indeed, I do...

And since ever then that they do not respect international rights .. I opt out. At least, this seems to be my right - until now....

And if security becomes more important than this, than what ? No legal (european and int.) rights anymore?

But most of all: I doubt the employees can handle X ray's.
As my dentist said: "Not all employees here are allowed to use them on clients because they do not all know how to use it correctly. How must it be at the airport ? Oh my god!"

Not a bad idea. Maybe it's time for a FT NOS DO at a major airport. That would certainly get some press.

It doesnt matter how long I think about the nude scanner
I cant find one good reason for have to be screened nude to be able to fly.

What has a naked body to do with travelling? Nothing at all.

Having mostly un educated, rude people doing this for ones safety.
Who are they kidding. It is a joke. And a really bad one.

Nothing to do with modesty or morals.

it is just a way to say that it controlls the bad guys.

Really. I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel so safe cause they see "everything".

I feel LESS safe cause THEY cant come up with something that makes sense.

I'm male, 60, and a bit of a cynic. I believe that every day presents both risks and opportunities, and that we all have to accept them. I lost one parent in a light plane crash in the early 70's, the other safely navigated a Navy cargo plane around the Pacific during WWII.

With TSA:
I have issues with privacy, lack of professional behavior, theft at the check point, the AIT technology, the screening of people with disabilities, and the we can't be bothered to test it so we'll just toss it attitude of the war on water is beyond annoying . An item is either a threat, or its not....

I also believe we should be treating this threat as international anti-social criminal activity, and using law enforcement behind the scene to detect and neutralize it rather than subjecting vast numbers of innocent people to demeaning scrutiny in some false effort to provide an illusion of safety. Its all in your mind, you know...;)

I haven't had a reason to fly in 3 years. Don't miss lack of leg room, food choices, delays, or the cattle car atmosphere, and haven't had the opportunity to opt-out, yet.

all i care about is getting through the TSA charades as fast as possible

Some perverted fool viewing our private parts is the least of the problems.
(although, if you have young children and don't object to their participation in child porn, then you need to rethink your priorities)

1. The NoS reduces the speed with which you get through the TSA, which seems to be the only thing you care about.
2. It reduces security- it won't detect explosives or weapons hidden in folds of skin or bodily cavities, which are traditional smuggling locations. It also diverts time and resources from real detection methods
3. It exposes us to unnecessary and hazardous radiation- aren't doctors advising against excess use of mammograms for that very reason?
4. It is wasting hundreds of millions of dollars of our tax money.

As to the OP's question, male, and Mrs. Gargoyle, who as a medical professional is quite concerned with the radiation, also opts out.

Jenbel Oct 12, 2010 9:31 am

Female (althoguh I tend to lurk on TSS, and only post occasionally). I've opted out of travelling to the US if I can avoid it since the fingerprint charade. This has only been confirmed by the charging us to promote tourism charade. I'm a bit meh on nudity (since I go on holiday to European beaches) but I object to pretend security which doesn't do much.

But there are scary monsters!

I used to spend most of my time in the US, now I spend most of my time in Asia, and avoid the US if at all possible. I feel more free in China.
