Fear over a 'fat sloppy TSA agent' laughing at me? No. Fear that my rights are being violated? Yes. Fear that there is an alarming lack of resistance amongst the public to prevent those rights from being violated? Yes. Fear that your opinion is in the majority in the US? Yes. Fear that this violation of rights will continue to spread around the world? Yes. |
Female, mid 30s, scientist, I'll opt-out if I encounter a NoS. I know how easy systems are to hack and I know how to properly work with radioactive sources, which are two compelling reasons I'll fight the NoS.
My parents, who are both fairly right-wing oppose the NoS - mainly because they don't buy the TSA partyline and because they've traveled outside the US and seen how every civilized nation handle security better than us. |

I opt out every time I'm forced to fly (not often any more; I drive whenever I can). I do not accept unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation for my personal safely. I do not accept unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation for the safety of my young grandchildren. I do not accept the gradual erosion of my own rights. I do not accept the gradual erosion of my grandchildren's rights. I choose principle over expedience. ~~ Irish |

On average, I interact with them twice a week, sometimes more. I have not been selected for a nude-o-scope, mostly due to the fact that I can avoid airports that have them installed. In the case of my home airport, DEN, I know which lanes contain the devices, and know how to opt-out if necessary. I will opt-out if ever selected, and don't have a problem with other pax staring at me. I've convinced FriendlySkies-Mom & Dad, both frequent fliers 2P & 1P, that TSA is a disgusting waste of their tax dollars, and the NoS is to be avoided at all costs. I've also created the www.nudeoscope.com site, and have been educating friends about the effects of the devices. If chosen, I will always remember these simple words: I opt out. |
All of you give hope for America.

Female. (Yeah, really. :)) Age, well... old enough to remember a different America. :(
At work, with friends and while traveling, I've recently been raising the question of the nude-o-scopes without giving my opinion first, to try to get an honest reading of the other person's view. I haven't noticed a difference between the genders, but my observations are limited to non-US-based people for whom this is either a hypothetical or fairly rare experience. Most of my work colleagues are male. Some don't care if they're scanned, but they don't think it makes much difference to security. Others agree that it's too invasive, and the one who approves my travel :) supports my refusal to, for example, transit through LHR. Mostly I encounter people - men and women alike - who just refuse to go to the US because of the whole TSA circus, not just the WBI alone, or indeed because of the larger hysteria of which DHS/TSA is only the most visible symptom. There's the woman whose wheelchair-bound father was forced to stagger and fall through the WTMD at LAX while his wife was restrained from helping him. And my seatmate MEL-SYD who asked me "what the heck is wrong with America?" and said that although he had been educated there and had friends, he would never go back; he explicitly mentioned being treated like a criminal at airport checkpoints. There are my four friends in the English-speaking expat community in Geneva who, one at a time, said to me "I'm never going back to the States because of the way people are treated." If there is a difference in opinion over the nude-o-scope between men and women, it may be that too many women remember the Great TSA Breast Exam Experiment™ of a few years back, and the scanner may seem less invasive than returning to those days. :(

Mrs Halls120 used to give me a hard time for being so critical of TSA. After the past year where she has flown with me more often than normal, she now dislikes TSA with the same passion that I do.

all i care about is getting through the TSA charades as fast as possible if you are so ashamed of you bodies that you cant walk through the scan, maybe you should consider that you are doing something wrong taking care of yourself. ....and what is the fear anyway...that theres a fat sloppy TSA agent behind the screen laughing at you? ....you are really wasting your energy |

Female, opt out every time, and avoid countries where nude-o-scopes are mandatory.
Seeing me or anyone else naked w/o a cavity search (don't get me started there), does nothing for security. Especially the slightly trained monkeys who masquerade as the TSA. I cringe to think they are the front lines of anything other than maybe an expendable human shield. There is nothing added from a true security standpoint. Have seen plenty of idiocy that could be easily circumvented by someone with a few brain cells. |
I'm female and I OPT OUT. Flying STL-DFW-FLL-DFW-STL Oct. 12-13. Hope I am chosen for NOS so I can loudly OPT OUT.

I'm male and I'll opt out every time!

Or being frisked without probable cause... Longtime female road warrioress here and I find the entire notion of being required to submit to a strip search or allowing a government employee to run their hands over my body simply to get on an airplane to be bizarre. Cannot fathom how anyone can find this remotely acceptable. |
