Buddy passes & security

This will be our first time flying with a buddy pass. My question(s) are. Will security be about the same? Will we be subject to about the same chance of being put thru the "extra" security as everyone else? (I think I've heard them called "Selectee" lists or something on here) We are both regular fliers so we aren't going to go up to the desk acting all weird or anything so we would have no reason for the airport cops to notice us, that isn't what I'm sasking but I'm just wondering if it is about the same security wise for the buddy pass holders as for everyone else. Thanks!

You will get the full goat rope/grope gate etc. Plan on it. Depending on the airline and the airport. I have always had SSSSS on the BP, even after it supposedly ended. Non-revs are always last minute -- they don't issue the boarding pass without an empty seat, at the last minute, only one-way issuances, all of which trigger the RTSAT (royal tsa treatment).

I have never, not once traveled on a BP/non-rev without the full treatment. Rarely happens with a paid ticket. They think that terrorists only buy tickets at the last minute, only buy one-way tickets etc. Never occurs to them that a terrorist may actually buy a round trip 15 day advance purchase ticket with a credit card.

oh, we bought our tickets WAY in advance, well at least for me, I usually buy a regular, no-res ticket say a week or so in advance but I bought these about 6 weeks in advance (we don't travel for almost 2 more weeks from now) lol but I was just wondering. I mean we used our credit card to book these just like we always do (they aren't our buddy passes, we "borrowed" them from a family member) but I wasn't sure if we would actually have to go thru MORE security than normal or if we would just go thru regular old security. Sounds like we are in for a day of fun. It seems like I did use buddy passes 4 or so years ago to go on a trip with friends but since he booked the tickets I can't really remember but I don't really remember any extra security hassles at all. Oh well, either way. I don't mind having the "full treatment", and I'd certainly never expect "special treatment" I just don't want "more" security delays! lol

A good friend of mine, also an FTer, travels non-rev on UA all of the time. To my recollection, he had not receive a full grope/gate rape...

+1 They treat airline employees like we are the bad guy when we fly or even worse. So I only fly if there's no other way.

On the other hand, I have never had any extra screening when traveling on a buddy pass.

All of my travel is as a non-rev and I can only think of very few instances where I was selected for secondary screening. You'll probably be fine.
