in line yesterday at security

i was in line yesterday at security and i am guessing it was a tsa manager (no uniform) was going down the line kind of chit chatting asking people where they were going, to have there id and ticket ready, etc. and just as he came to me he turned around and walked away. he walks over to a tsa guy in a uniform who seemed like a supervisor and with his back to me starts talking and i can see him point at me and the supervisor looks over at me, they keep talking and then the manager turns around and looks at me.

when i get to the id check the supervisor walks over and takes my identification before the person who was sitting there could and he asks me where i'm going and why and where was i coming from.. i had flown in the day before from cph via lhr and was now flying from bos to mia. i answered all his questions and then he stands with me while i take out my 3 pc's from my back pack and he asks me some more questions about my work and then says if i need any help to wave to him and then he walks back and talked to the manager

at first i thought maybe the manager thought he knew me, i did grow up in bos and actually had worked at logan years ago. then i was thinking that maybe the manager thought he recognized me from a wanted picture in there break room (if that is possible). any thoughts? am i being paranoid or could i now be on a tsa list?

You were picked out by some SPOT person. The rapport was empty.

Did you have a flyertalk tag? They probably went back and said be prepared for this guy.

It could be SPOT, or they could have thought you fit some description they were looking for and they were stalling you there till they found the other picture, etc.

could have been spot - but the manager was soooo obvious about what he was doing. and that was the odd part, to me, that he did it right in front of me.

i would have thought that if i were being considered as a spot candidate he would have been trained to be discrete, same with the supervisor.

Must have left discrete out of the BDO training.... to make time for the mystery terrorist recognition program.

Maybe they need new training- the Perpetrator Emulation and Recognition Program.....

There is a famous YouTube documentary about someone's encounter with screeners and cops at DTW who harassed him for taking pictures. In one of the clips, there is a priceless encounter with SPOTNik Janetta. What you experienced was not unlike the DTW encounter captured on film.

Second & most important: Why did you submit to the interrogation in the first place?

Could be they do it on purpose. Make it known to someone they've been "SPOTted" and see how they react (do they act more nervous?)

It's all BS anyway but...I wouldn't put it past these guys to try that approach.

SPOT is no more effective than a game of silly buggers at determining if someone is a threat. Threat to what, anyway?

The guy's name is Sam Dodson. Excellent guy who has risked a lot of his own personal freedom for our rights. He sometimes posts to FT.

He probably SPOTted you SPOTting him. You are not supposed to look around and watch what's going on, face front and eyes down Citizen.

(anyone remember the old Apple TV advert - just like that)
