Here's another dumb and annoying rule: How about getting off a flight, going through immigration, picking up luggage, going through customs, rechecking your luggage then going through full security again, all in the confines of a sterile area for international flights. What sense does this make besides making your connecting time even more stressful than it already is?

Which doesn't matter if the bags are checked through to the final destination, and the passenger doesn't come in contact with them during a transit. @:-)

Right, but you have to be with your bags to clear customs so they can steal all your salami and cheese and hassle you over your stuff (though personally I've never had that happen so I'm pretty lucky).
