Washington Post is reporting...

Vintage airplane crashes at National
UPDATE:
All commercial airplanes are being moved to a different runway following the crash of a vintage plane at Reagan National Airport.

10:25 a.m.
A runway at Reagan National Airport has closed after a vintage airplane crashed Tuesday morning.

Eight vintage biplanes were headed to the airport to mark the premiere of "Legends of Flight," a 3-D IMAX film about aviation history, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The plane landed before pitching forward and rolling over. The plane was carrying the pilot and one passenger. They were not injured.

May be a long day if you're flying in or out of Regan.

Latest update from the newspaper's "Breaking News Blog" indicates the passenger in the Stearman was a Washington Post reporter.

All commercial airplanes are being moved to a different runway following the crash of a vintage plane at Reagan National Airport. Post transportation writer Ashley Halsey III was the passenger in the vintage Stearman aircraft.

The planes were flying in two formations, with three planes in one group and five in the other. The plane that crashed was in the group of three.

The Washington Post reporter had a camera rolling in the front cockpit during the landing; the video is on the newspaper's website.

I'm speculating but the aircraft and pilot may be connected to the Flying Circus Aerodrome in Bealeton, Virginia. It's a group of vintage aircraft owners who put on an airshow and sell open cockpit biplane rides on summer weekends as a way to finance their aviation addiction.
