iPad and TSA
The iPad has a case where one can see the unit inside, but will TSA force me to put this in the tub by itself? I am worried that in picking up 4 tubs it would be easy to damage the screen with the rush of clearing traffic.
I know this is an old item, but I am carrying Bose headphones for the first time so do I pull those out of the case as well?

Bottle line: leave them in your carry-on

I did purchase this and was trying to be prepared for what may happen as I have a long international flight this Thursday.

Of course.. I think you should be fine leaving the iPad in your carry-on. I leave my Sony Reader in my bag all of the time. Never had a problem with TSA asking it to be in a bin by itself.

I would think the same rules that apply for e-readers (like the Kindle & Nook) would apply to the iPad. As to your Bose NC headphones, I've got a pair of AudioTechnica headphones, and I've never taken them out of my computer bag.

There was a thread about LAX Comrades specifically noticing Kindles in people's bags and calling them out to be removed and re-screened. I would suppose the same goes for the iPad. That said, there is no reason the iPad should be able to be in a carrying case, given that laptop sleeves are considered "checkpoint friendly."

If the iPad is the only thing in the case, it's likely okay. I can't imagine them treating it differently than a laptop.
Laptops can be left in checkpoint friendly cases. I often go through TSA with laptops in their own neoprene sleeves. As long as the laptop is in that case by itself, I can just put that sleeve with the laptop in it into a bin and it goes through with no problem.

I can. It doesn't have an internal HD or other components that are what make laptops required to process separately.

Saw this in the Technology group thread about iPad posted by N965VJ:
"Not surprisingly, there was some confusion whether an iPad needs to be removed from your bag at the checkpoint. Forbes.com received this clarification from the TSA today:
"Laptops not in checkpoint friendly bags must be removed from carry-on baggage and placed separately in bins. Small and portable electronic items, including iPads, should not need to be removed from their carrying cases," writes TSA spokeswoman Sarah Horowitz. "If a [transportation security officer] cannot resolve an item in carry-on baggage on the X-ray screen, it may require additional screening."

The general rule of thumb is this: All large electronics should come out your bags unless they are in a TSA friendly case, or whatever. Like, if an iPad is in a case by itself, it should be fine unless there are wires or other things obscuring our view.
TSO's specifically call out items such as laptops, kindils, etc. because they are the most commonly carried large electronics. If we were to say to take out all your large electronics and NOT provide an example, everyone would take out their cellphones, watches, iPods, and calculators, but wouldn't take out their laptops, dvd players, ps2's, radios, whatever.
Btw, don't take your vibrators out of your bag, unless you're just trying to make us laugh. It will work 100% of the time, though.
