In the event of a real emergency, there is no way these cast-off hourly employees would stand with vigilance and duty. Can you imagine some of these obese and elderly TSO's trying to form an impenetrable human shield?

More theatrics.

The TSA would be your "yellow canary" and give you the time to quickly run away from the gas...

I don't believe that the TSA would form a red-rover wall if somebody had a gun and was firing at the checkpoint....
