Sprint PCS charges
There's something I've always wondered--Besides the Free and Clear Plan, Sprint has some plans that do not include long distance, but are on the home rate USA program, where you don't pay roaming charges while on their network. So what happens if your friend in Boston calls your Boston number while you're in Los Angeles? Does that mean neither of you pay long distance charges? This seems like it would be a great way to avoid long distance charges, but basing your phone where most of your calls go.
And for those of you who are not familiar with the other plans, there's one called the All-Nighter, which gives you 500 off-peak, and 70 peak minutes for $25/month.

You will pay Long Distance charges if you have a regional plan with HomeRate USA. If you are going to be on the road a lot, you might as well go with the Free and Clear plan. It is a lot cheaper. Plus, you can get Northwest WorldPerks miles if you have the Free and Clear plan. And its all about the miles right? http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Just so that I understand correctly-- If I live in Boston and have Boston number, but fly to L.A., according to the Home Rate USA, I won't be paying for any local calls made in L.A. Now, say, someone in Texas tries to call me. He will be dialing a Boston number, so he will pay for long distance. Now do I have to pay for long distance also, i.e. will there be a double charge?

My understanding from Sprint is that the answer to the preceding question is no. Your friend will pay to call you in Boston, and you will treat it like an ordinary incoming call.

In order to get NW miles on my existing Sprint PCS account, I had to switch to one of the Free & Clear plans. They would not provide miles with a regional plan. My Free/Clear is about $100 a month for 1,000 minutes.
