New Year in Lima or Cuzco?

My partner and I will be visiting Peru a few weeks and am still debating whether to spend New Year in Lima or Cuzco.

Presently, our itinerary is set for Cuzco during the New Year but it can be changed. Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know what kind of New Year's celebration they have in Lima, but make sure you set aside enough time to visit Machu Pichu. An Incan Trail hike would be a fun way to spend New Years Day, IMO.

It turned out that we didn't spend new year eve on either of the city.

We were in Ollantaytambo. There was no big celebration and we were already in bed because very early train to Machu Picchu.

By midnight, lots of fireworks on the street and we were waken up. Said to each other "Happy New Year" and went to bed again. Very low-key celebration but new year's day in MP was just special.
