Machu Picchu at Night

Found this article: http://www.readersdigest.com.au/ruins-of-machu-picchu about visiting Machu Picchu at night. Sounds like a great opportunity! Does anyone know if this is still possible? I'm not clear on how old the article is.
Thanks!

It was a decade ago, but a friend of mine did a month long holistic retreat to Peru, and his tour group was able to spend the night there outside. Not sure if they entered via the front gate, or maybe were doing the Inca trail (at which point here isn't really a manned "entrance" place. I'm guessing the latter.

There is also the Sanctuary" which is the hotel located there on the property. I'm too poor to stay there, but It is atop the hill, right at the site, and is open 24/7.

I was in Machu Picchu a few years ago, and the actual park had strict operating hours. It opened at around 7am, and I was told it closed before dark.
