Driver from Lima to Paracas

Can anyone recommend a driver to take us to Paracas from Lima, and then pick us up and take us back. From reading everything online I have visions of kidnapping taxi drivers, giant potholes, bribe-seeking policemen, buses that don't leave until late in the afternoon, usurious car services arranged through the hotel, etc. Wondering if anyone has had a good experience with this?

Planning to stay overnight in Pisco or Paracas? If not, getting a driver from Lima to Paracas doesn't make much sense as you should be able to make a day trip with guide from Lima. Travelling in bigger tour group is safer and probably cheaper than getting a trustworthy driver.

Be careful what you read online as it's too easy to get paranoid and not to be able enjoy your holidays. Some Pisco-related information is outdated as the earthquake in 2007 changed the safety situation for a while.

Anyway, most people staying overnight, spend the night in Pisco and take a tour to Islas Ballestas departing from Pisco. As a result very few buses travel directly to Paracas and most people prefer to travel by bus Pisco and take a cab to hotel. Pisco is town located ~20 minutes from the village of Paracas. Unless staying overnight at Doubletree Paracas, staying overnight in Pisco is better option. Your hotel should be able to recommend trustworthy taxi to Cruce de Pisco where you can get a bus to Lima every 5 minutes.

We hired a driver we got from Tripadvisor and he turned out to be a disaster. He demanded payment for both ways up front after not mentioning it (we only gave him half) and then brought along his 10 year old daughter, creating even less room in his small car, and he was to charge $600 US roundtrip. So when we got to Paracas we arranged with the concierge to be be driven for $230. So thats a good backup plan.

We are in Lima now and the yellow taxis seem fairly reliable, it might be worth it to ask one of them how much the drive would cost
