Help with connection time in Lima

I was hoping someone here could provide some information on the process of connecting in Lima from an international flight to another international flight.

We are looking to fly from Easter Island to Lima and land at 11:10 pm with LAN. This is on one ticket. Then on a separate ticket, we fly from Lima to Houston on United which is due to leave at 12:50. This gives us 1 hour and 40 minutes to connect.

We are going to try to get them to check our bags through but not sure if this will be successful.

Can someone tell me besides going through immigration, baggage claim, check in at United, immigration again, what other process there is? We went to Macchu Picchu in 2009 and had to stand in line for the departure tax but I think they did away with this.

Expedia actually sells this ticket with this connection but I'm not sure if the connection time is long enough. Thoughts?

If you could have this as an actual connection (without needing to worry about baggage etc), then you'd just have to go downstairs, go through security and go back upstairs to the departure gates (no need to go through immigration).

If this isn't possible, the process would be: go downstairs to Immigration, baggage claim, Aduanas (press the button to see if you get checked), then check-in, back upstairs to security, immigration (the departure tax is now included on the ticket).
11pm-midnight is the worst time for arrival at LIM, if you are unlucky you could be stuck in line at immigration for a long time. I wouldn't recommend taking the risk of missing your flight.

I agree. I find the time window risky. I read they working on better/faster immigration process, basically increasing people, but there are several risks. If you have to claim baggage, there are delay risks at that hour, maybe the plane has to wait for a gate, long lines at United counter (flights to Houston and Newark are at similar hours), etc.

I don't see a good chance to check your baggage for all flights. United and Lan are not even associated.
