Porter at YYZ?

On May 2nd around 4:50PM we were #2 in line for takeoff on runway 5, in front of us a delta CRJ took off, and coming in for a landing was a dash 8..I was surprised to watch a plane with porter livery touch down..

Was this a diversion from YTC maybe? Does porter offer their aircraft for charter?

Flight test. They are built by Bombardier close to YYZ.

Porter does also use YYZ when weather is not favourable at YTZ. PAX are security cleared at YTZ, then put on a bus and taken directly to the aircraft at YYZ.

I don't think Downsview has any connection with YYZ. Rather, they have their own runway at Downsview.

I wonder, if a Jazz Dash 8 has to divert due to mechanical or weather issues will they be allowed to land at YTZ?

Or will roving packs of porter raccoons keep them at bay or set upon the pax?

Just for fun I think Jazz should divert a Dash 8 to YTZ. It could leak oil all over porter's runway.

Porter to EWR

At the risk of going off topic, Porter's ads say that their trip to NYC cuts 2 hours off your travel time when compared with presumable flying out of YYZ. Is this realistic?

Is there US Customs and Pre-clearance at YTZ? Is getting from EWR to downtown Manhattan quicker than from LGA?

All this, of course assumes that you live close to the Island Airport and not YYZ.

Given that Deluce (I think) stated that the route was not going to be viable if they were reduced to 5 daily instead of 7 ... how much time will it save if they no longer fly there!

Monday mornings I think it could save at least 1.5 hours one-way.

45 mins for taxi (v. 5)
60 mins for customs (v. 10)
15 mins for security / walk to gate (although the LGA flights are usually 'RapidAir-esque' in location) (v. 5)
