E-ticketing problems

E-ticketing problems
I recently looked at a NBO-BOM flight on Kenya's website but although it says e-ticketing eligible (a small green "e"), at the checkout this option is not allowed. The same with Qatar air for a FRA-NBO flight. Any ideas why this is happening. Both websites say that e-ticketing has been started on selected destinations including the above but it does not seem to work?
Ticketing desks are normally in the departures hall of the airport and one has to clear immigration to get to it which is not possible unless I have a visa. In Qatar's case it could be picked up only at an office. I am under the impression that one would have to pay at the airport/office and then an e-ticket will be issued. What in the world is the point in doing that? One of the most important benefits in e-ticketing is that at anytime and anywhere a person can book tickets instantly without silly worries of ticket delivery. Has anyone bought an e-ticket from either site or even with Virgin Atlantic?
