Help - Lost Baggage from CAI > JED > SIN

Hello guys,

Newbie here. Seeking support and advice on my lost baggage.
On 3 Oct, I took Saudia and departed from Cairo (SV302) via Jeddah (SV836) and landed in Singapore on 4 Oct.
However, my luggage did not come through. Same for the other passengers who took this route as we all ended up at the Lost & Found counter.

I did a PIR and was told the baggage should come in on the next flight (6 Oct) which did not happen. There was no Saudia flights coming into Singapore until 7 Oct.
Status on World Tracer remains as "TRACING CONTINUES. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER". After reading up on the forum, I understand these are not live updates.
Called in today, and Changi staff advised me to wait at least 72 hours for any status updates, and they assured it is also likely other carriers could be used to fly in my baggage. But at this point, it remains 'missing'.

Separately, I download the Saudia app and while it did not recognise my baggage tag, I managed to pull up my record using my eticket number instead.
Nothing on the baggage making it to Jeddah... but just 2 scans at Cairo.

18:19pm Checked In
Cairo International

18:45 Loaded into container
Cairo SV302

16:43 Missing baggage reported
Singapore Changi

I suspect my baggage could still be in Cairo.
And is it way too early to expect any updates given it's only the 3rd day?

I am back to my home country, Singapore, and my travel insurance's payout is not great. Just SGD150 for delayed baggage.
And in the worse scenario, probably just up to $250 ($50/item x 5 items max) for lost baggage after 21 days.

On the Saudia app, they asked to submit a Baggage Claim Form if it remains missing after 10 days.
Can anyone advise if the Montreal Convention works for Singaporeans in this case? I am unable to locate info on this locally.

Thanks much for any helpful advice.

I just received a call from Changi Airport.
They found my luggage and will be delivering in the next 2 hours!
The same flight SV836 touched down a few hours before, and I believe it came in the same plane.
Status on World Tracer remains as "TRACING CONTINUES. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER".

Updating here in case someone meets with the same issues in future.

Thanks for reporting back, now I find myself in the same predicament - my only luggage did not make it for (AMS-)JED-CGK, but luckily there are frequent flights between JED-CGK.
Reading your update tells me that the worldtracer status "TRACING CONTINUES. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER" doesn't mean much. There's hoping that it'll be in one of the next flights and the ground staff properly handles it.

I am sure it will work out fine for you too
And do remember to claim from Saudi as well after receiving your luggage. Yes, they do provide some compensation for mishandling of luggages. I got back like USD157 for my single piece of checked luggage.

The process can be a bit tedious after submitting the discharge form, and it took me a total of 2 months to receive the money since kickstarting the process in mid October 2023. In between, they will email you for various docs like passport, bank copy and details etc. I recalled there was no sound no picture for 5 weeks after sending them all these, and finally I got the compensation in mid December 2023.

And I also got an AirTag for my sanity haha.
All the best!

Thanks for the hopeful encouragement. I wish I had remembered to put my airtag! I will surely permanently put in my luggage going forward.

Just wondering, did you also check what the Saudia baggage tracker status read back in 2023 after retrieving the luggage? Did they update anything after 16:43 missing baggage report?

My current status shows the similar sequence as yours above.
But I checked also my earlier (and complete ) flights 2 months ago: it shows "loaded into container" at both origin and Jeddah airports. So if there's no "Jeddah", then it's likely still in Jeddah.
Now we're 24 hours further and 3 subsequent JED-CGK widebodies arrived, and still nada. Just like all travellers with bags, I have no other choice but to come to terms that it's only a bad luck and I can only wait for now.

I tried logging into Saudia's app but my record was not found anymore. But I found a screenshot of the app status and my baggage after they sent it to my home I will PM you the images as I need to make at least 5 posts before I could upload images.

In short, the status was pretty real time. I remember receiving a call from Changi on 7 Oct between 6-7pm that they will deliver the baggage to me in about 2 hours' time.
True enough, I got the baggage at 9pm. The screenshot was taken past 7pm after the Changi call, and it was already updated that delivery is underway

Just to be clear, the app status only reflected the times, without specifying the dates.
It should be:

3 Oct 2023
18:19pm Checked In
Cairo International

18:45 Loaded into container
Cairo SV302

4 Oct 2023
16:43 Missing baggage reported
Singapore Changi

7 Oct 2023
18:40 Delivery underway

Hope this helps!

As an update to anyone interested: now we're 1.5 weeks further and I still haven't received my luggage and I am due to fly back in few days' time.
Airline staff and L&F in CGK could not do much apart from referring to worldtracer status "still searching for your luggage", which is understandable as their job scope starts only when Saudia brings my baggage into CGK.
Contacting Saudia has been a pain, their Saudi Whatsapp number is inactive, Indonesian Whatsapp is not responsive, their chat function on website is just a useless bot. So, I have no idea what they're doing in Jeddah. Either way, the fact remains that the luggage and I are not reunited.
Also I learned testimonials from some of my friends that experienced the same, where it could take weeks in one case and months in another case before they got their luggage back when Saudia misplaced theirs (if only I had known this before booking).

My own conclusion: I decide to take my future business elsewhere.
It's a shame that I liked Saudia's J class for their great service, good schedule fit, and rather affordable fares.
But airlines must also be evaluated by how they handle issues when they arise; this is where Saudia utterly fails.
