Any feedback on Tryp
Anyone have any recommendations for downtown MAD? I've found an online deal that the Spanish chain Sol Melia offering at it's moderately priced Tryp brand in city centre for EUR 50.00 per room per night, so grabbed it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

My experience with Tryp Diana at MAD airport was less than stellar but location was quiet and convenient. Rooms are in bad need of renos.
Price was OK (70 Euro)

I stayed at the Tryp Madrid (near Opera metro) a year ago. 50 Euros sounds like a good deal to me.
I believe my rate was somewhat higher, but included a two room (very roomy) suite.
Gave my AAdvantage number at check-out; the clerk seemed incredulous that I don't carry the actual card around with me (for him to photocopy), but he took down the information by hand. I gave up the points for lost a few weeks later, yet they posted on their own after several months.
That location was convenient to shopping, museums and the EasyInternet facility a couple of blocks away.

They refused to give me AA miles for my 70 Euro rate.
Any other experiences with SolMelia and discounted rates getting/not getting airline miles. I know they say rack, corporate and preferred are all eligible but what does that mean?

I stayed at a Sol Melia in Paris (Melia Colbert Boutique Hotel). I joined the MAS club beforehand to get whatever would come with that. My rate in Paris was a terrific 120 and I loved the hotel - on a street perpendicular to Notre Dame on the left bank. I presented my AA card and made sure that my MAS number was in the folio. I have never received any points or miles and when I access the website my stay doesn't even show up. (But it didn't seem worth the time to pursue fixing this). Bottomline, I rate the MAS program as low as they come. (But the hotel was fab).
