AirBaltic Basic Fare

This July, I am intending to fly a one-way leg on AirBaltic onboard a DH4. We would be two on that flight ( in the same reservation ) and we are intending to buy Basic tickets with no checked bags and no extra kilos for cabin bags. So we would probably have two cabin bags ( 1 pp ) around 8 kgs and 2 personal items ( 1 pp ) that could fit under the seat. Just to ask, is AirBaltic strict about cabin baggage weight and do they weight is at the gate like LCC carriers. Just to add the flight would be from an outstation. Also we wouldn't buy seats but I am not sure if I could seats for free at OLCI. Would I be auto-assigned seats or would I be able to choose seats. If seats are auto-assigned, would we sit together or they would randomly allocate two different parts of the aircraft like Ryanair, Easyjet, etc...

airBaltic has not been strict / measured the hand baggage during last couple of years on my flights - and haven't seen this at RIX. However, they introduced the 12kg cabin baggage option maybe a month or two ago so not sure if this is going to change. There is no free seat selection at OLCI, they assign them for you. I haven't seen people changing seats after take off as much as on Ryanair for example, so assume they assign the seats together.

Thanks for your answer,

I am scheduled to fly on a DH4 so I won't pay for seats as I assume that we would receive a window and an aisle. I haven't took the risk and purchased the 12kg cabin baggage option for one of us.

This actually may be wise, they sent this email today

Dear passenger,

we would like to inform you that heavy traffic is expected at most European airports during the summer vacation season.

In order to ensure efficient boarding and sufficient baggage space in the aircraft, we have introduced additional cabin baggage control points at our airports. Therefore, we kindly ask you to check your cabin baggage dimensions and weight prior to going to the airport.

If you are not sure whether your bags fit within our cabin baggage allowance, you can purchase additional cabin baggage weight or add additional bags to your reservation by clicking here

We look forward to seeing you onboard and hope you will have a smooth travel experience with airBaltic.
