Any experience with getting any benefits for Sky Team Elite Plus status (KL)? I had my agent added the FFP number to the booking but I see no changes in which seats are available for no charge and which are paid (evonomy)... Thanks!

I had used their mini-app to select seats so that my father and I would sit together. When checking in in-person, we ended up getting the front bulkhead seats together anyway

My concerns were alleviated when I got my seats at check-in at T4. The flight to PVG was good, the cabin crew were efficient, but I found the food a little underwhelming. The consolation was riding the Maglev at 300km/hr to Longyang Road station - great experience!

They occasionally still run it at 440 km/h, but mostly during off-peak afternoon hours. I was surprised when I saw it go that fast a few years ago.

Ironically in Germany where the technology was developed, the trains run mostly 200-230 km/h as there are only two stretches of ral high speed rail
.
That's when they're running at all, of course. Because strikes

I'd bought my MU tickets from an OTA and was able to select my seats on the MU website without any issues. It was with a different tab from the manage bookings function.

So I have used a different OTA to book this time and their website did not offer the seat selection at payment. MU website as usual does not seem to want to allow me to select seats although I have a PNR and ticket number. I notice the website is now different.
Can anyone suggest the best way to prebook a seat? Can it be done on the website with a booking made with a OTA?

If you have a mobile phone.....yes.....it doesn't matter where your geographic location is.
The applis tend to be in chinese only though. With Wechat it can automatically translate the mini-programme, not sure about Alipay. With the android app (via direct .apk download) you will be on your own.

Yes, that's the starting position.
WeChat is the Chinese equivalent of WhatsApp but so much more. There's a whole ecosystem of apps (Mini Programs) that run within WeChat, some provided by WeChat (like WeChat Pay) and also 3rd parties. In this example airlines and MU.
For many Chinese businesses a significant route to market are via WeChat mini-programs

Spoke with the OTA, and they are saying that at the moment, MU are charging for a seat assignment and that I am not close enough to my travel date (end Dec). I have not encountered this before. And these are J seats.
