Experiences with UL and missed connections

Bit of a random query this but I'll throw it out there anyway!

Just about to book a PEK-CMB-GAN trip but the connection time at CMB is only 70 mins. I have checked the flight history and delays seem minimal, and we flew this trip last year with no issues. Flying out of PEK however there is always that nagging worry of being delayed.

If we miss the GAN connection on the Saturday there is not another flight until the Monday which of course means two nights missed at the hotel. There would be an option to go to MLE then on to GAN with Q2 sat afternoon.

Has anyone had any experiences with UL IRROPs and how was it handled? I expect being put on a later flight to MLE would be likely but would they book us through on Q2 or would they leave us to our own devices in that respect?

Flew GAN-CMB-SIN last year with a 45 minutes connection; the GAN flight was delayed and we reached our parking spot in CMB (a remote stand) at the same time our CMB-SIN flight (the last one of the day) was scheduled to leave.
Once the transfer bus reached the terminal, staff were waiting for us and escorted us through to the departure gate, onto another transfer bus to reach our CMB-SIN flight which they had held for us.

All on one booking, not sure if the OWE helped, but staff on the GAN-CMB flight had told me they do hold flights as a policy.

Our checked-in bags made the connection too.

I cannot comment on their rebooking policy when there is a 2 day gap between flights though.

My experience with UL is that if you insist they will put on their MLE flight and book with Q2 to GAN. Q2 has so many flights from MLE to GAN per day. I think maybe 6. Now even Villa Air has started flying to GAN. By the way Q2 does not have Interline with UL or any other airlines yet.

Having had to look it up, Q2 is Maldivian Airlines, based at Male Airport (MLE). I would suspect UL and Q2 have a reasonable working relationship, even if there is no formal interline agreement.

Since you have a ticket on UL to GAN they will rebook it through Q2 from MLE to GAN. Yes they have a fairly decent level of corporation between UL and Q2. Probably Q2 would charge the maximum they can get out of UL but the regulatory authority in Maldives is fairly strict in these issues if reported to them.
