HU: Files for LAX-CSX

Hainan Airlines files for service between Los Angeles and Changsha in China.

2x weekly on the 787 beginning at some point this year. Interesting city pairing to say the least...

More logical than Wuhan-San Francisco or Shenyang-Vancouver.

Plus, HU has an uncanny knack for making odd routings work.

Because the more "premium" routes were taken by CA/MU/CZ

It's easy to operate these routes when the provincial Govt is subsidizing the losses.

It seems that a lot these 2nd and 3rd tier cities are trying to get direct flights to North America but economic value of such flight maybe questionable if they require massive subsidy to operate. Such is life in a central planning economy...

Folks in my office in Hangzhou told me earlier this year that service between HGH and LAX would be starting up in the fall, but they didn't know what airline. I could not find any news of this.

If I had to guess... HU

But I haven't heard anything either.

LAX-PVG is low yield enough... I can't imagine the consolidator fare on LAX-HGH. $500 year-round?

If HU really wants to get in, they should try ONT-PVG instead of LAX-HGH.
