Coupon Connect Access
Hello,
I was just wondering if you had considered implementating a "quality" of posting (as determined by fellow posters) instead of just a 90 days as a member with 90 posts rule in order to access Coupon Connect.
I actually agree with the 90 posts rule, but 90 days seems a bit long (people who wanted to spam would likely be gone well before 90 days).
I've been a long time reader, but I didn't join until recently when I decided to post something.
Thanks! (And I love flyertalk. Great forum all-around)

As someone who has had access to the Coupon Connect forum for a few months, IMHO, the 90 day:90 posts ratio should remain. It took me some time to "bloom" in terms of the quality of my posts and getting a feel of what I had to offer and receive from Flyertalk. Plus, all of Flyertalk's moderators aren't just volunteering time here: they've got paying jobs too. How much more time would they invest in qualifying each post? Would the "quality" factor also exist towards access to OMNI?

90 days really is an insignificant amount of time.

The Coupon Connection is for members to exchange travel-related items amongst one another. It's done through a barter system (no cash transactions). I have found it well worth the time spent. When you have access, you will be able to decide for yourself
Cheers.

Cheers.

Plus, you learn a lot through reading for 90 days. This is a common sentiment, but I really wish I had known about Flyertalk when I was in college, just starting to take regular cross-country flights. The unnecessary delays I've suffered, the compensation I've failed to obtain, and the re-fares I've lost. <sigh> I'm sure some people are long-time lurkers, recent members, but there's no good way to check that. I don't know that I will have any use for coupon connection for some time, but having the 90 post/90 day goal was a good way to structure my time, and at this point, the rewards I've reaped have more been the knowledge than the access to CC! In terms of information, it's also arguably an efficiency concern -- one would hope that people taking advantage of CC are making the best use of the trades and know what the difference is between, for example, various upgrade instrument. Reduces the chances that someone will feel s/he is getting the short end of a stick.

Thee has been al sorts of considerations and who really knows if todays' is the correct one. With some input we just picked a position to be in and it seems to have stood the test of time. As for "quality." Afraid that's a bit too subjective for any real consideration, though I do appreciate and understand where you are coming from. As it is, we are entirely driven by volunteer hours and minutes for the task of Moderating and I just don't know how much more we can stretch that to even assign an overseer of "quality." And beyond that, who really gets the final say in what quality is? At the end of the day, it's our members and it's a bit like what is "art" - you'll know "quality" when you read it. There have been things I have read on FT over the years that have been of tremendous assistance to me, but they sometimes come from a thread that maybe has only 2-3 relies which might signify that the topic wasn't all that valuable to the tens of thousands of other members.
The 90 days is not really about spam, it's to at least point new members in the right direction to appreciating FlyerTalk for what it is intended to be - topics of travel interest to the frequent flyer. If anything, I may argue (perhaps even to myself!) that 90 days is not long enough and that 6 months is better. This topic is too easily transcended into expectations that's not what the core principle is for FlyerTalk, other than an appreciation of all things frequent flyer. If we can do that, then things like CC may and will follow.
Again, thanks for your suggestion and for allowing me a chance to just speak off the top of this little cranium that i have.
Thank you for your support of FlyerTalk.
