Offensive Post

Since I have followed the recommended course of action, but nothing has happened, I feel compelled to post here.

I'd like to understand why this thread still remains open.

Britney Dead!

Yes, I realize that we are given wide latitude in OMNI, and I have even been guilty of stretching that latitude from time to time. But IMO the thread title and the subject matter are extremely offensive. If I were to start a thread joking about President Bush being dead, I bet it would be closed down in a hurry.

I guess I don't see the humor in posting gleeful threads about someone dying, whether it's the troubled Britney Spears or someone else.

I agree. It makes it hard to tell if she really dies now,

While I too found the thread in question morally bankrupt and devoid of a shred of decency and compassion, I would suggest it's still barely within the wide OMNI bounds for inclusion and is rather unrepresentative of the types of topics covered in that forum. I am curious to hear RP's opinion.

I'm not sure that I would agree:

From OMNI Rules and FAQ:

Any posts containing communications that are knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, obscene, profane, threatening, harassing, offensive, vulgar, abusive, hateful or bashing ... will not be tolerated and will be removed. Individuals who do not abide by these rules are subject to having their FlyerTalk account permanently deleted.

Britney Dead!
Until your post in that thread, it was all tongue-in-cheek. @:-)

IMHO, your failure to recognize the subtext is not grounds for moderator intervention.

Britney Spears has serious problems, but her only reason for existence is to make her life public. IMHO, any post that recasts that lifestyle as a Cautionary Tale is a useful one.

She isn't dying, except professionally.

Thumbs down False postings should be discouraged.

I have to agree with those who object to the "Britney dead!" and "Bush Dead!" threads in Omni.

While both threads are indeed offensive, my objection is based more on the fact that they are false, and therefore annoying.

I have often been alerted to breaking news while browsing FT, and to be drawn into these ridiculous threads is an annoying waste of my time.

I don't think we should create a precedent of allowing people to knowingly and intentionaly post false information.

While I don't find it offensive, I did think she had died, and that's what I have a problem with.

Tongue in cheek or not, (& it was), the title is what's bad, not the content.

I think I agree. I probably would not have brought this up if the thread title had been Britney in the Hospital. The people who get their jollies out of such things could have posted the same drivel that they did without making the rest of us click on it.
