Post the Power of FlyerTalk...

(or, an open letter of Thanks to Randy Petersen....)

Dear Randy,

I wanted to give you the heads up on yet another example of how powerful of a tool your “little baby” has become. FlyerTalk has grown into much more than a resource for those looking to earn points and miles… it’s a real life problem solver and a tool that is taken VERY seriously by the major airlines.

Here is my story…

As you may be aware, after leaving my globetrotting ways in the Corporate Finance world I became a Wine Merchant, and settled back to my home town, EZE. Over the past few months, I started getting complaints from my customers about how Continental Airlines was handling bottles of wine shipped back as checked luggage. After some thought and a few calls to the local office of CO that yielded zero success and only more headaches, I decided to start a thread over on the CO Forum looking for advice from the board elders on what I could do.

Surely enough, one of the resident gurus suggested I get in touch with CO Insider, who as you surely know is the MD for Customer Relations at Continental, Scott O’Leary. In a matter of days, Scott announced that he had looked into the issues I had mentioned in my thread, even meeting with TSA officials about the matter.

As a result of my bringing to his attention these matters on FlyerTalk, Scott informed all CO passengers that they were changing their policy.

As I mentioned in my thank you post to Mr. O’Leary over on the thread in question, aside from CO’s ruling on this issue, its important for me to point out how FlyerTalk can help airlines be in touch in real-time with the needs of their customers. Imagine how many calls and/or letters I would have needed to make/write without the having FlyerTalk as the ideal communication tool.

Congratulations to you on creating this great resource that is a valuable tool to both customers and suppliers in the travel industry, and kudos to Scott and Continental Airlines for their amazing follow-up on this matter.

Here is a link to the thread I started over on the CO boards:

Please receive my best personal regards from Buenos Aires,
