Flyer Talk TV

I saw an interview in USA Today last week with a FT Mod and that got me thinking:

Has anyone ever approached FT to pitch a Flyer Talk TV show? With 500+ cable channels I bet the Travel Channel or other travel related media orgs could be very successful. I am in the TV/Movie/BC News business and am just wondering if its been discussed here. I am new to this board and I know that even as an extremely frequent traveler I find the forum very helpful. I see a lot of general travel content but nothing that gets into the nuts and bolts of frequent travel like the FT forum. Just curious what folks think...I know a few really good production companies

Not disagree with another moderator, but since this doesn't really have anything to do with FT Community (get togethers, birthdays, etc.), I'm going to move this to Only Randy Petersen where it can get the attention of the only person who has the authority to pitch FT in this manner.

Only in that the "news of the day" is the CHAOS strike and that was the basis for the idea. Where ever you think it should be is fine w/ me.

Kill it altogether if you want...I just thought it was worth discussing. If Bassmaster magazine has its own show then why not the FT MewMedia verion of a mag.

No big deal, really...

I know when I need to nod off I will watch fishing...but you would be surprised how profitable these "targeted" shows are. I could see a FF show drawing some big ad money from Arlines, Hotels, luggage makers, rent-a-car companies etc. It would most definetly be on Sunday mornings at 9:00am, but I bet it would be succesful. The issue I see is that if too many FT secrets get out we would all lose the "edge"

Ok, I will try to answer some of the questions that have been asked in this thread. (apologies to Randy in advance).

It is important to know that Flyertalk and what Flyertalk represents is the property of our host Randy Petersen. Flyertalk exists because Randy wants it to exist. If Randy decided one day that he didn't want to have Flyertalk, he could turn it off. As is often said this is Randy's sandbox and his rules apply even if we don't agree with them. Also Randy has stated many times he doesn't run Flyertalk for profit. He has other outlets that form his business, Flyertalk isn't one of the profit centers.

Now as to spinning Flyertalk into other media, I cannot see him going forward with that at this time, but then again that is his decision. We as a community can bring these ideas to Randy's attention, and then it is Randy's decision to go forward.

I hope that helps the members of Flyertalk understand why this thread was moved to ORP. It wasn't moved to stiffle discussion, it was moved because this suggestion is only something that Randy himself can decide. And I will leave it to him to comment on the merrits of the idea itself.

(Randy, I hope I didn't overstep my bounds here.)

I fully understand and respect that. That is why I said I have no problem with you killing it all together if that was what you wanted. I do, however, think that FT for profit or not is a great resource and there are clearly many people who come here to get answers, discuss the topic of the day, and share their experiences with a larger audience. To that end I would personally like to see this forum spread to other forms of media because I believe that based on the number of elite travelers (Hotel, Airline, etc) this is truly a service and deserves as many eyes as it can get. As I said, I am in the traditional media industry and have never seen a program that covers the stuff we as frequent travelers like to see as concisely as FT.

This is a compliment to the forums CONTENT and nothing more than that.

No disrespect intended and certainly no ulterior motive at all.
