also i'm serious about being willing to put togethe a post-freddies do over the weekend & will rope in some of the other la-based folk to help. am also willing to have folk over to my place during the weekend - live a block from the beach & 10 minutes from the airport. we could potentially have a party there either fri or sat. i've gotten 70 in my place for other parties (and that was w/ an xmas tree), so know it can be done. it's cozy ;) :D

Have stayed there several times and yes Sharon they have a shuttle. :)

I was there a month or so back drinking with FT'ers at that VERY neat Belguim Beer Bar they have there in the Four Points lobby. ^ ^

One kokonutz could not keep up with the 10% alcohol real beers, cabbed it to airport, fell asleep in gate lounge and missed the last UA red-eye to the east. Slept in the airport all night: ;)

SkiAdcock - a Saturday after-doo sounds great and your place would be great - we can all toss in $50 each to re-carpet it afterwards. :)

To answer typhoon's question...

Actually we're all assuming Randy is going to be kind enough to invite FTers to attend again this year, but that's an eager assumption on our part.

Since voting etc doesn't even begin until Feb 1st (vote early & often, err, early ;) ), no way to register to attend yet. I think, if memory serves, there is normally a link later if FTers are invited. The industry folk get invited via separate method. And as far as I know it's not open to the public.

wingless, this is a rough estimate, but i think cocktails are 5-6, dinner 6-7:30, 7:30pm-on (10ish?) are awards.

Since this is his forum, I'm sure Randy will be back on at some point to fill us all in on the proper scoop.

Cheers.

Edit - my question answered.

BONUS STARPOINTS FOR STAYS ON THE WEST COAST!

Thank you for registering for this rewarding Starwood Preferred
Guest(R) promotion. Now you'll earn 1,000 Starpoints(R) after your
first stay, 2,000 Starpoints after your second and 3,000 Starpoints
after your third -- for up to 6,000 Starpoints -- through
April 30, 2006.

That's strange. The West Coast bonus I signed up for did NOT include any hotels in Southern California; only SOME Starwood hotels in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington. (There is a list of 15 participating hotels.)

Did Starwood issue multiple versions of the "same" promo???

Anyhow, I booked a room at the Four Points LAX at a cancellable AAA rate of $105+tax. If a better deal comes along, I will rebook it. There are some cheaper rates out there, but they are prepaid and nonrefundable (such as a $70 senior rate, a $99 internet rate, etc.).

ozstamps Jan 18, 2006 11:26 pm

Kathy - my bad. I registered a while back and remembered the promo was called "BONUS STARPOINTS FOR STAYS ON THE WEST COAST!" and checking back into it now see LAX hotels were not included in any form. Weird.

But the $105 you found is a great rate, or 3000 miles for those so inclined. :p

Maybe they will have a "BONUS STARPOINTS FOR STAYS IN LALA LAND" promo... One can always hope. ;)

Or perhaps there will be a special Freddies rate?

And for folk who are members of the other hotel programs, basically every chain is represented at LAX & easy to get to 4Pts. The hotels along Century Blvd will be the closest to 4Pts, vs ElSegundo (although that's only about 5 minutes farther).

Cheers.

PS - Maybe *Wood considers LA the really far-left coast vs west coast so it's not listed in promo. ;) :D

This is really exciting - since its in LA that means I can fly over and get there in time for drinks on Thurs nite - WOOHOO!!!

delacpa Jan 23, 2006 4:53 pm

We'll Be There!!

Mr. & Mrs. delacpa are so excited to find out that this year the Freddies will be practically "just around the corner"

Thanks for the excellent planning, both in locale AND time of year (after end of tax season ;) )

From the Starwood web site on this hotel, you can confirm a Jr. Suite (which is basically the only type of Suite they have) on the night of the Freddies for only $155 if you are a AAA member. Just select the "Automobile Association" from the pull-down "Special Rate Plan" selector. Then select sort High to Low and you'll see it.

Strangely, Jr. Suites are not listed at all if you search using the default nothing in the promo field. Go figure.

They look like this in the West Tower:

...and like this in the East Tower (slightly smaller Jr. Suites):

...only both have the newer refurbished decor and the new Four Comfort Beds now. Sofa is a sofa bed, FYI.

Also any of you that are over 50 years of age and have a AARP card, can snag a Deluxe category room (or Traditional, but who wants that when you can get a Deluxe for the same price) at only $70 a night.

For that, select "Senior Discount" from the same "Special Rate Plan" pull-down menu.

Here's some photos of a Deluxe Room, pre new decor and beds though:

Hotel has comp Wi-Fi everywhere (rooms and public spaces), but signal strength is a bit weak in the X88 Jr. Suites in the East Tower. Try to get a x17 or x30 Jr. Suite in the West Tower as they have better Wi-Fi strength and also have wired ethernet as an option. East Tower there is no wired broadband option, just the Wi-Fi.

Be prepared for a somewhat small Traditional and Deluxe standard room size at this property. But still a great hotel, IMHO.

Thanks.

I mentioned in a post that somehow disappeared from this thread ( :( ) that I booked a (regular) room at the AAA rate of $105+tax. This is a NON-prepaid rate.

And.... you neglected to mention that the Senior (or AARP) rate of $70(+tax) is a prepaid, nonrefundable rate. I know that $70+/night is not a huge amount of money to risk (especially if booking only one night), but I elected to book the higher cancellable rate, just in case I can't attend after all.

No conspiracies here. ;)

Nope. I didn't really neglect to mention it. It's just that I felt our astute FlyerTalkers would see that in the rate info, like every other rate provision reviewed when booking any reservation. So I didn't feel the need to mention it. :)

Besides Kathy...you couldn't possibly qualify for an AARP rate anyway! :)

I mention the AAA Jr. Suite rate of $155 because this property has 20 Jr. Suites and that's it. There are no true one-bedroom Standard Suites. And while I'm certain many of the Freddie-nominated attendees will be staying at their own nearby brands and at other hotels...I think if someone wanted to stay "on-site" and have a bit more space...then locking up a Jr. Suite now for not a whole lot more than a regular room rate, might not be a bad idea. Rather than counting on the usual complimentary Platinum Suite upgrade you might usually expect here.

I just got a feeling there might be a lot of Webflyer folks, nominees, and just plain FlyerTalk SPG Platinums at this puppy (if FlyerTalkers are again invited to attend) that might create some heavier-than-normal competition for these Jr. Suites. Therefore some readers may want to lock one up now while they have the chance. :)

The 4 Points at LAX is one of the better 4 Points in the system.

While the suites are spacious (according to my own experiences and PremExs pictures); remember, it's
a 4 Points. The Sheraton Palace in San Francisco it's not. ;)
