Make Candidate List Visible
Randy, can you make the list of candidates who declare their intention to run for TalkBoard visible as they do it?
This was the procedure last year and it has two very strong advantages:
1. Someone who has not yet decided to run might look at the list, feel that he would be a better candidate/member than those who have declared, and add his name.
2. Conversely, some other person might feel that his running might drain off votes from some other F/Ter who he very much wants to see elected. In that case, he might prefer not to run or even to remove his name if he has already declared.

Good question:
I have decided not to post the list of candidates before the official start of debate and Q/A. While you post two very good reasons, my two reasons count just a little bit more. My reasons come from watching the debate of what to allow and not allow as part of the process from discussions among our current member-elected TalkBoard. So, to safeguard some of their very own concerns, we'll do it this way.
1. We are not publishing a list of candidates since each candidate may choose to change their mind before the final date of candidacy. We are protecting each members right to give their decision as second thought.
2. By not publishing a list of candidates, it will make it harder for any one group of members to participate in the debates and Q/A for the sole purpose of engaging another's past or future value to FlyerTalk.
3. To lend support to the concern of debate among the current member-elected TalkBoard, we hope that each member who decides to try for one of the five positions open for election does so because they believe they have much to contribute to the future of FlyerTalk. It's less about peer pressure, competition and other candidates.
4. As well, but not publishing a list of candidates yet, we can actually single out and suppress advance "politicking" and "campaigning."
And while you correctly point out last years practice - it did seem last years elections had some practice concerns. We're trying very hard to make this year fair, equal and the best opportunity for all our members to have the best representation they can earn by participating in the election process.
Again, thanks for the question.
