Link in Arabic???

I was reading an AA thread, and I came across an Arabic link.

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com...68691900294319

I know what you are thinking: it's in English; however the banner and hyperlink appeared in Arabic on the thread.

What's up?

Here's the thread, but the links might change for all I know.

Fascinating!

A UBB-powered bulletin board set up right-to-left in Arabic.

I wonder why Google brought up that link? Perhaps this is a Farsi FlyerTalk-type board? Wish I read Arabic/Farsi.

That's a Google Adsense link. Website owners get paid each time you click on it and they have very little control over the content.

The links are chosen by: the content of the page, the success of the link, your physical location and many other attributes. For example, if you see a link whilst at Tallinn, it will be a different link when in Miami.

This normally means Google will display highly appropriate, geotargetted adverts in your own language but every now and then it will go wrong, and either latch on to some unusual phrase someone has used on the page or even an advertiser will simply select an incorrect word when creating their Google Adwords advert. Nothing to worry about.

What have I done?

1. I am very involved in FlyerTalk, a travel forum that explores many intricacies of airlines, including such frequent topics as the TSA, the FAM program and customs procedures at various international airports.

2. I was using Google earlier today to determine the name of the things bomb squads put bombs into to blow them up. I now know that bomb squads are actually known as Bomb Disposal Units (BDU) and the devices are called total containment vessels (TCV).

3. Now I am clicking on Arabic forums that could contain anything.

Am I setting myself up for trouble?

I am somewhat suspicious of the tracking Google does and the reasons for it, but I'm sure you'll be fine! At the very least you've made FlyerTalk some money.
