Moderator or BB Nazi ?

Which one are you guys. Should I submit a post to you first and have you decide where to post it?

keep this in mind: this is someone else's game.. if you don't like the rules, you dont have to play.

* this topic title is another proof, that strong moderation is needed here.

* if you (your family) would have any personal Nazi knowledge/experience, you would never use this word in such a context.

* thank you moderators for doing your (so well paid ...) 'job'!

Exactly.

That would probably be a good idea.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the categories which FlyerTalk uses to categorize posts so that it can be a better resource for all of us. Perhaps you might wish to spend some time in the FlyerTalk Help section familiarlizing yourself with these categories and the kinds of posts that are appropriate.

I suspect you would find this more productive than attacking the folks whom the owner of this remarkable resource (and, by the way, how much did he charge you to be here?) have asked to be his "volunteer staff" and to carry out his oft-expressed wishes that there be a certain order to this board.

I hope that is helpful.

Agree 100 %.

By the way, although I found the "Soup Nazi" Seinfeld episode funny, one should be more careful with using that word.

Ken,

If you have a problem with the way one of us moderates this forum please feel free to email one of us directly (our emails are clearly on the top), or email Randy and/or post in his forum.

So because this has NOTHING to do with miles or points, it will be closed.

Can someone please give us a clue from WHICH Forum this was moved? Thanks.

MilesBuzz

There were many misplaced topics posted in MilesBuzz over the past couple of days.

Certainly moderators make judgment calls, on which reasonable people can differ. A sample of topics moved from MilesBuzz included:
  • Diners Club Referrals - a person asking folks to sign up for Diners so s/he would get the referral points. More appropriate for either Diners or SPAM forums.
  • Claiming Missing BA miles when flying CX - moved to BA forum.
  • Platinum challenge ending? - A question about whether AA's challenge program would continue. (Notice that such a program was ending could be Buzzworthy to give FTers advance notice to take advantage of it if they wanted.)
  • Westin LAX Alarm - complaint about fire alarm going off in the middle of the night, moved to Starwood
  • Just got FS2004 and it won't work, agggg!!!!! - complaint about software not working.
  • Pax info - question about whether any websites allow you to see whether specific passengers boarded a plane. Question answered and moved to TravelBuzz

Normally I'd say that needing to move so many threads meant that at least I (as one of the MilesBuzz moderators) had failed. However, things had been pretty quiet for awhile in MilesBuzz with regard to off-topic posts. For some strange reason, these things go in cycles.

Speaking only for myself, why do I move off-topic threads?

1. To keep the forum useful. Folks would have to go through alot of clutter (alarm clocks at a particular hotel property) to get at what they were after if anything and everything were permitted in MilesBuzz. There'd be even more off-topic posting than there is now.

2. To help posters get the answers they seek. They're simply more likely to get the best answer to a question about crediting BA executive club miles in the BA forum.

3. To help folks searching for answers. Folks need to know what forum to search rather than having to search them all.

And several variations, nuances on the above. Honestly, and again speaking only for myself (although perhaps others would agree), I do not do it for a sense of power or control. I do not do it out of an inner desire for 'order'. I do it as a way of helping the community.

Reasonable people can disagree on any particular decision. And reasonable people can disagree on the overall value of moderators. But our host has expressed a desire to keep posts on topic (about miles and points, and in the appropriate forum). He has even frequently moved threads himself when they have been off-topic. So I'll keep plugging along in my belief that I'm being helpful until it seems as though I'm no longer being helpful.

Thanks for listening!

Best,
Gary

In this case Gary, you are also speaking on my behalf. Nice post.

gleff and Craig6z. Please be clear my comment was 100% innocent in that there was no indication to that point as to where the thread came from and I was curious. I actually suspected it was an airline board.

I think all would appreciate you two and your colleagues are right on the coal face re misposted threads in Miles Buzz as it is of course the first thread new users get in their sights.

It looks a mess right now with padlocks all over the place, but that is not of your making as you guys did not make the misposts. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And I agree they are clear misposts - and not all from newbies either. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

If that is what Ken in Phx created this thread about he is WAY out of line.

Please keep up the good work. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

Recently visited Auschwitz myself. A horror perpetrated by German Nazis, and someplace that I think every person needs to see first-hand. The term "Nazi" really should NOT be thrown out casually or trivialized.
