New Flood Control Time
 

I noticed that the flood control time is now 150 seconds, versus 60 seconds - at least for OMNI. While I was responding to 2 different topics, and got times out, it is a good improvement. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

As noted elsewhere, I disagree. Too long. I prefer the aability to pop in to OMNI for a minute or two and comment on several topicswithout having to sit around and wait for flood control to run its course.

I agree with cactuspete and already contacted Randy about the new 150 second limit in the FT Travel section (only there).

My proposal was: 150s is fine in all forums except OMNI where I would stay with the 60s because it does not take long to respond to the OMNI-games/-association threads. No real thinking necessary there.

150 Seconds is too SHORT.

10 MINUTES is more like it.

The biggest problem with OMNI is that it has been used as a "playground" for users who were obsessed with padding their post count.

Increasing flood control takes care of that.

I personally have never really expected that people were just posting in OMNI to increase their post counts, but it seems to be a commonly held belief. I've actually never understood why anyone caqres about post counts, but probably some with high post counts and obviously those making the accusations, do.

Therefore, I'd like to offer atht I have seen other UBB forums who made their boards work so that posts to their "OMNI" don't count towards the user's post count. Not sure how this would work technically, but I wonder if it's a possibility for us here.

Well, a few have admitted as much.

Flood control won't stop the playground mentality, and just penalizes legitimate users.

Here's an idea. The moderators seem to be (and should be) frequent participants on OMNI. They generally have a feel for who is trying to cause trouble (whether or not it is technically within the T&C). Maybe they could take a more active role. Then, for example, when one of the anti-doc cliques starts bumping threads or posting "sadly, no"'s with smilies, they can politely suggest that the poster knock it off or otherwise have their OMNI hall pass revoked. Not a perfect system, but an improvement nonetheless.

So now being annoying is not allowed? It was previously not a violation of the FlyerTalk TOS, nor is it now, as far as I know.

Wholesale bumping of threads is ANNOYING. It does not matter who is at fault.

Wholesale bumping of threads is one of the abuses that indicates Flood Control is too short.

Maybe infrequent Omni posters can stay at 150; and obsessive Omni posters can go to 5 minutes.

I agree. I could care less about my post count. In fact, if it got zeroed out every few months, wouldn't bother me one bit.

If that is true (and I suspect it might be) we are in serious geekville.
