Security and Non-Security and the FlyerTalk Flyers

Randy,

A lot has been posted on the various FlyerTalk Forums regarding security and the lack there of. A lot has been said regarding the changes since that terrible morning almost 3 long weeks ago.

If travel is to continue, changes must be made. REAL changes..not cosmetic.. You know a lot of people. There are many on this board who know people in authority.

Let them know that taking my nail clipper away accomplishes nothing. Removing close parking and taking away curbside check in does nothing.

Did you know that anyone with a half assed security check can get a job with the caterers or cabin cleaning services and waltz through another half assed security check in the back 40 of almost any airport in the US?

El-Al has it right. We have to do the same before something else happens.

Since, Security is my business, let me comment on your thread...

1. You are probably right about the nail clippers...

2. You are definitely wrong about the parking... Car and vehicle bombs are nasty devices... period. Standoff distance is very important in minimizing, and I mean minimizing the damage to facilities and personnel. I'll give you an example, when khobar towers was blown up by a car bomb a few years ago the only reason that a good portion of it was standing after the blast was the distance from the vehicle. That distance saved lives....

Many of our airports are beautiful, with open spaces and lots of glass to let in light and let us see the planes landing and taking off... and if exposed to a blast those windows can become thousands of tiny projectile knives...
