No post number?
Obviously most folks 'round these parts are addicted to points, in one form or another. It is my opinion that quite a few members just post for posting's sake, as to rack up more points. This goal to gain more points may be the cause or spark to many un-needed posts, even flames. I do not know how much these numbers are cherised by others, but we may see less and less useless or 'war' posts if FlyerTalk would just remove the post-count. I understand the post-count may encourage membership numbers and/or return 'customers', but it may indeed weed out those who are in it, again, for posting's sake and retain those who are indeed dedicated to travel. Just a thought, right or wrong.

jimmyjames: This is somewhat of an old refrain around here. My personal opinion is that I don't believe it contributes in the least to the flames. Those are born of entirely different motivations IMHO. I believe it certainly contributes to some unnecessary posts - but it's a harmless enough way to feed these posters' ego needs in this respect. The only caveat is that newcomers should not necessarily equate number of posts with subject knowledge. Many feel that the "member since" is a similar and less misleading indication of the senior participants. It's a debate not likely to get on anyone's radar screen right now, however.

I completely understand. Being fairly new myself, I just did not know if this has been brought up recently. I can see how all this other hoop-la can 'fog the lenses'. Maybe in another space and time! Thanks

In any case, I'd restate my oft expressed personal view in favor of eliminating, or at the very least, covering, (as they once were) these numbers!

PlaneBusiness has this information in your profile (except Junior Member/Member). The post count, registry date, etc., is always available, but it isn't as obvious if it isn't included with every single post.

Yes, even that I believe would be sufficient enough. Just to not have the post-number high-lighted as if it were some sort of ranking. Sometimes these forums veer off into a tangent of whomever has the most posts has the most credibility (certainly un-true in some cases) and then it turns into a pi--ing contest. Post number in the profile seems like an appropriate place, (since we are all so concerned over items being in the appropriate places!) then if anyone cares, they can view it for themselves.

PB gets flames between employees of competing or about-to-merge airlines, or between different airline groups (or between employees and the few customers that visit
