Flyertalk Buddy List
I had a great idea at a Flyertalk dinner last night. We talked about how it's neat that we can land in most any city in the world and have a good chance of meeting a Flyertalker for dinner or drinks. I thought we should increase the chances of meeting people and use technology to do it.
So here is the concept. Each time we connect to Flyertalk, we are prompted (configurable option) to enter our location and length of stay. This updates a database and lets us know who else is in that city (using airport codes). Then we can choose to email our buddies to see if they wish to meet. This is entirely optional for those who don't wish to participate. The technology is easy and it will make Flyertalk even more valuable.
For Randy's attention, you would be the 1st in the world to implement this type of service!

I like this. Reminds me of the BMW Anonymous listing. A member of the BMW motorcycle riders' club gets a book with contact phone numbers worldwide organized by location. No names, just what services the contact is willing to provide.

I like it!
Somewhat like a reverse-itinerary service.
You could click on an airport code and see all the folks who would be willing to host.
Not a hard thing to do at all!

Outstanding idea!
Maybe even include a local contact phone number?

also provide please bank-account-#, what services the local FlyerTalker will/must provide, etc. etc.
(where is emmeth...?)
serious: I like the initial, basic idea being realized, but without many private details - just the FlyerTalk-contact handle.

Agree with Rudi re: FT Handles only. Granted in my case it is a moot point...

Thanks for the comment, it makes us hurry up what we have got going. This was been proposed before and we actually have an alpha we're working on in-house. It actually serves two purposes: 1) when traveling and; 2) identifying those FTers close to home for other get-togethers.
As soon as we get a beta done, we'll release it for testing but again, we are only driven by the board and what you want your community to be. Great idea and thanks for any additional comments on how you see this working.

Great idea and thanks, Randy, for running with it. Many's the time I've scanned FT Itineraries to see if there was going to be anyone else where I was going to be, but it's a long list, it takes time, and I'm sure I'm not an accurate scanner. I'd definitely put my itineraries in this sort of database. (Too bad I just came off a 50,000-mile month and don't expect another one for a while.)
