BA to CX @ SFO: Luggages checked through?

BA to CX @ SFO: Luggages checked through?
In November, I'll be taking BA287 arriving SFO 17:20 then connecting to CX879 leaving at 12:05 the next day. Since everything that I need for the one night transit will be in my carryon, is it possible for BA at LHR to check my bags all the way to HKG onto the CX flight leaving the next day where at SFO after exiting customs I can drop them off at the connecting baggage desk where they will be transfered to CX the following day? Afterall the transit between 17:20 to 12:05 is less than 24 hours and both BA and CX bookings are under the same PNR. Is it possible to do this since I'd rather not bring extra weight into the hotel for the one night?
