Fee for Changing flight in RTW?

I have flown 1st leg of my RTW (ICN - NRT) in business already, my next flight will be 27 July (Mon) NRT - HKG on CX. Today (Sat) I called CX Tokyo to change to an earlier flight on 27 July but they asked for a fee of US39 (?) because my RTW ticket was issued by Qantas. Then I called Qantas Tokyo and their office is closed for the weekend.
I very seldom fly RTW on Oneworld and I have no such problem with all my Star RTW tickets. The changing fee is not much but is it correct that I have to pay?

Presumably you are on a xONEX or an xGLOBnn.

There is no fee as such for date/time/carrier changes, but individual airlines can charge a service fee.

Try phoning QF in Australia. Country code for Au is 61

But they may want to price gouge as "service fee" just like CX.

If you have some VOIP service which you can use to call cheaply internationally, can contact QF in Australia and make the change. I am not sure whether QF AU will charge a service fee for the change but suspect that they would

This is why some people value the AA RTW desk so highly. Though even they are not open 24 hours/day/

In Perth it's worth the hassle and the extra commissions to get it issued locally but on AA stock (001).

YMMV (mostly on the more expensive side I suspect)

I second that - AA RTW desk is fantastic - they change DONEX for me regularly and never charge for a date/time change even on tickets not issued by AA or for sectors not flown by AA. CX on the other hand........

Or just get it issued through a good TA which doesn't charge service fees and is just happy with the commission.

You don't need to change your ticket - you only need to change your reservation. xONEn ticket coupons are not endorsed "valid flt date only" so they can be used on any flight on that route. If the flight looks like it might be full then you can ask CX for a reservation in the appropriate class to hold a seat, for which they won't charge. But you can also just turn up and go if there is a seat available.

This is all much easier with paper tickets - one of a number of reasons why I still prefer them.

If you only want to change to an earlier flight on the same day, I'd just turn up at the airport accordingly and try your luck there.

Are there JL flights around the time you want? I'd an AA-ticket with a QF flight, but I changed to the JL flight on the day of departure. The JL desk changed it over without any fees and with free smiles.

My original CX flight is 5 p.m. and I wanted to change to CX 11 a.m.

It is not much fun turning up at Narita Airport 6 hours earlier and find out that I have no seat or I have to pay extra. It is not a money issue.

I have made numerous changes on my previous STAR RTW tickets (changing date/time) and never been asked to pay a fee by any airline.

I like Tokyo very much but I am not keen on the trip to/from the airport.

I have decided to stay longer in bed and keep my original flight. Might be a delicious sushi lunch at Tsukiji as well...............

Thanks everyone!
