how does AA 1st Class compare to BA on longhaul flights? [edited]

Never flown 1st long distances so I don't know what to expect from one airline to the other. I know aircrafts can be different but in general, is one better than the other or are they about the same?

Thanks!

Never been on either but from what I gather, BA F is considered better than AA F. The ONEWORLD forum is a better place for this question since people there are flying all the different OW carriers all the time and comparing notes. I'd suggest going there and trying some searches.

BA offers a better product all around, but if you are flying US<->UK, you won't get AA miles on BA, and vice versa.

BTW, I have a co-worker who pronouces "vice versa" as "vice-a ver-sa." It's really annoying.

well since it is actually Latin, according to my dictionary it could be: ˈvīs ˈvərsə; or ˈvīsə vərsə

Can you clarify what specific BA route and aircraft you are referring to, and be more specific about the AA route and aircraft. There are big differences even on the same carrier.

"First Class", on AA transcontinental, is a different creature, depending on whether you mean FC in a 772, 763, 762, or 752, for example. They are not even close to being about the same, even if comparing AA service and aircraft.

BA is consistent and the experience cannot be ruined by last minute equipment changes. I would take BA any day.

BA all the way. Terminal 5, Concorde room, more miles, LHR-DXB on BA anyways.

ok. Not sure if this question is proper in this forum or not but, if I did BA all the way from JFK > DXB, can I use AA Miles to get me there for both legs of that flight? (for next May)

nope, you'd have to do NYC-YYZ-LHR-DXB. BA's US-UK flights are not in the mix for earning or burning.

another option would be RJ JFK-AMM-DXB. RJs Crown Class is supposed to be right up there with the best of OW.

So you don't mean transcontinental at all.
So, if the question is whether First Class is better JFK-LHR on AA or BA, then the winner would be BA. Of course, you couldn't use AA miles to fly nonstop from the US to UK on BA. So, if you want to go nonstop, I would choose AA, as I don't think it is worth going to Canada just to fly another carrier, but YMMV

So if the question is: What is better, AA between Europe and US compared to BA:

In my opinion AA has one of the worst F products. The seats are pretty good and about on par with BA and others, but everything else sucks. Service is almost always bad, sometimes even rude. Food is more like business class food on bigger plates, lounges are mostly a joke and so on.
BA in my opinion is just average. Seats are small (lots of other airlines have the suites type now which offer lots of space - 8 or 9 seats where BA has 14). Food is better, Service is a bit hit and miss, but still lightyears above AA.

If you need to pay for the ticket look at Virgin. Overall experience in Business (Upper) Class similar to BA, better than AA and cheaper.

On AA the differentiation in seating between J and F onboard is HUGE, whereas on BA, some actually prefer certain J seats in the upstairs 744 cabin over certain F seats. Regarding onboard service and airport lounges, BA has a large advantage ---- but be aware that in London, other than in the lounge itself, BA generally takes pains to treat F passengers no better than any other passenger, revenue or not. [They have made lots and lots of noises regarding some future improvements for F passengers, but nothing meaningful has yet been implemented.]

If you're seeking exceptional ground handling, privacy on board, outstanding food, or first-rate IFE, neither AA nor BA are particularly good choices.
