Escaping Economy ...

I'm traditionally a poor student, and have only ever travelled in Economy cabins during my various jaunts across the pond to the US and back again. However shortly I'll finally finish the five years it's taken to get myself an MENG in Aeronautical Engineering, and I'll be emigrating across to the US. In celebration of this, I've accrued a small fortune (at least to me) and am planning on blowing it on travelling in "style".

Since I know nothing of travelling outside of economy, I thought I'd pick the brains of you chaps as you all have a wealth of experience. The only real non-variables is that I'll be flying ABZ - DEN, (Although if necessary I could split the flight so as to be LHR - DEN instead).

I'll probably have around 4,000-ish, with the capability of going a bit higher. What product would you recommend? Particular Airline? Thanks for your thoughts or opinions.

First of all, congratulations on your achievement!

I would recommend checking out the Premium Cabin deal thread in Mileage Run forum...http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...ium-fares.html

Go to the last few pages for the most recent ideas and discussions. Historically, advance purchase (at least a month in advance) will yield the best premium cabin fares, but in the current economy inexpensive walk up fares are available on many airlines. You can find one-way Business Class fares from major EU cities to the eastern US in the $1,000 or GBP 650 range.

If you are interested in something more than just the shortest one way to the US, check out the Singapore Airlines RTW fares. You get to experience arguably the best airline in the world at a very good price, although some restrictions apply. Applicable itineraries would include LHR (or any EU SQ city)-SIN-HKG/ICN-SFO (or SIN-NRT-LAX) and then JFK-FRA to complete the RTW at a later date.

YEZSQ: GBP 1442.00 (Booked in M) Coach
CEZSQ: GBP 2727.00 (Booked in D) Business
FEZSQ: GBP 4644.00 (Booked in A) First Class

Also, more on the SQ RTW fare at this link...
