oneworld Emerald lounge access @ LUXembourg?

Can someone please provide advice regarding OW Emerald lounge access at LUX? We may have a few hours to kill there tomorrow afternoon.

Travelling Economy on BA to LGW, followed by transfer to LHR...

With thanks,

tb

There is a shared lounge that is non-oneworld specific. It's quite a nice lounge with a good selection of food and drinks considering it's a short-haul European lounge.

My experience is that there is no lounge access available for OW emerald when flying economy class on BA from LUX, as BA uses a contract lounge.

Departed LUX Wednesday evening, and for the benefit of others, the above advice was correct.

We were allowed entry to a relatively spacious, pleasant and uncrowded common user lounge ~ I believe the only lounge at the new LUX terminal. It is well designed and furnished, with as reported above a good selection of snack food and drinks and a variety of comfortable seating options.

The only downside was that wireless internet was available by credit card payment only ~ rather ironic considering the large number of hotels and cafes in Luxembourg offering free unlimited internet access, and the free wireless zones available around the city...

Yes, but to be clear, did you get access by class of service or by OW status or by Qantas Club membership?

As stated in my original post, we travelled Economy class on BA, with Emerald oneworld status, which I assume is what provided us with access (did not ask, but I don't think it was travelling in Economy...)

Sorry - I missed that you were the OP.

But we still don't know whether you got in through OW Emerald or Qantas Club. My perception, just from reading the rules, is that QC is more likely to get you into a third-party operated BA lounge than OW Emerald is.

Okay, while my profile says QC Life Time Gold, this is just a reflection of long term status within the QF FF scheme ~ you need to accumulate a certain number of "status credits" over time and are then awarded "life time" Silver, then eventually Gold. In fact you are not issued with a QC card while still an active QF Platinum / OW Emerald, so that status is simply buried within your profile somewhere, and I guess would be activated / card issued once you fall below the equivalent status in the FF scheme.

So, we only presented our QF Plat / OW Emerald cards (have not held a QC card for years), and after a quick consultation of entry criteria, we were welcomed to the lounge. I very much doubt whether the door person had any visibility of our QC status, so almost certainly (99.9%) we were admitted on oneworld Emerald status.

QC is not preferred over QF Plat contrary to what you may believe. In fact, as a QF Plat (Emerald), I have never had any problems getting into 3rd party lounges whether they be in PRG nor LIS or anywhere else for that matter. The only lounge which has ever been a problem is CDG although now that BA use the AA lounge I am sure this situation has recently changed. FWIW, CDG was always an issue due to space.

I hope this puts minds at ease and as mentioned above, I have visited many third party lounges within Europe (not just the two above) without any problem.

Yes, this is a recent and welcome change. ^

Noticed it on my most recent visit in February, whereas last October it was still paid access only.

Opposite Experience

Interesting. I've been denied access to the LUX lounge when trying to access as a OW Emerald with a BA economy ticket.

I have never been denied access to the lounge in LUX when flying on BA and showing my AA Emerald card. I have only ever flown LUX-LHR in Y and can 100% say that I was only let in because of my Emerald status--I tried getting in once with my AA Emerald card when flying (Economy) on the CityJet service (ie, not OW) to LCY and was denied entry.

I can also confirm that the Wifi is free within the lounge now.
