I have a 1W award on KA, CX and QF (intl and domestic oz, nz) starting in India and reaching the US via Oz. First segment is on KA from BLR. I have done multi segment trips before but didn't have much baggage so never thought about this.

I am not an expert on luggage but just be aware that QF stops operating in NZ and JQ will take over. You might be affected by that change.
My guess with the bags is that the regulations of each carrier you check in with will apply.

Generally speaking the rule is that the carrier with which you check the bags is the one that enforces the rules. So whatever rules would be in effect at BLR are the ones you'll deal with. If you check in again then you deal with that carrier's rules. It isn't particularly clear from your post where there are stops or where you are just connecting.

Since you are booked on an itinerary which includes North America, then the piece concept should apply and you should be allowed 2 pieces.
The max weight varies by carrier so stick to 23Kg per piece an you will be fine

I concur with Dave Noble. If the itinerary includes North America then the piece system will apply to the whole itinerary (and this should be stated on your ticket). The only issue is the maximum weight per piece and 23kg would be safe.
