5 sectors left on AONE5 - how to maximise

We are on the last few sectors on an AONE5 ex-ARN, but currently in PER. We have 5 sectors left, currently planned PER-SYD-AKL-SYD-LHR-ARN.

We actually live in Perth and at the end Feb we want to go for a week to New Zealand and a few days in Melbourne then back to PER flying the SYD-LHR leg later in the year, so I have been toying with changing the AONE5 to PER-CBR-PER-SIN-LON (to maximise J getting cross-continent as PER-CBR or indeed ADL does not attract the single sector limit that applies between PER/SYD/MEL/CNS/BNE - daft) with a short hop CBR-SYD QF Y then SYD-AKL (on EK A380 J) AKL-MEL (EK F) then finally a short hop MEL-CBR QF Y to hook up with the AONE5 again CBR-PER.

Here's the rub - we need to be in MEL on the 1st March (motorbike race) but we must be back in PER by mid-afternoon on the 2nd March.

Flight timings don't allow us to do MEL-CBR on the evening of the 1st March then CBR-PER same evening, and the only CBR-PER daily flight is 1930 on the 2nd.

If we changed the AONE5 as mentioned and booked our own flight MEL-PER (there are plenty on the evening of the 1st and morning of the 2nd) , can we forego the CBR-PER sector then hook up again with the AONE5 from PER?

If I have explained this in an understandable way (sorry if I haven't) can anyone see a better way to use our AONE5 5 sectors to get a trip from PER to AKL and MEL in maximising J and F? We are happy to spend a bit more and buy additional sectors if necessary (as we would do with EK J and F - we each have enought Skywards points for 2 sectors SYD-AKL, AKL-MEL upgrades).

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Marcus.

Is there D class available 2nd Mar MEL-PER ?
Its at least a 2 hr drive from Phillip Island to MEL airport. (160 km) Will be a lot traffic (most on 2 wheels)

Dropping a sector would be a reissue. Is your ticket paper or e-ticket and 20 or 16 segments ?

We will travel economy, probably on Virgin Blue, effectively losing the CBR-PER D segment.

Paper ticket issued just before the change, so 20 segments which we will have maximised.

In that case, get the ticket reissued open and don't even bother making a reservation for the sector you won't use. You can just throw the coupon away.
