If you have an AA (codeshare or metal) over-the-water flight in your itinerary then call the AA RTW desk. They are helpful and professional, although sometimes calls can be quite slow. I do all my RTWs with them and they have been generally excellent with only a couple of errors along the way. |
Thanks! It may be easier to ask one of the airline agents to do it. I normally use CX so perhaps they'll be able to do it, I'll ask since I'm familiar with their systems.

I'll just add my routing in case there are any glaring errors which the experts notice. HND-HKG-LHR-JFK/LGA-MPS-YVR-HND Am I right in thinking that I could call CX and they should be able to ticket this (they are the airline that normally tickets my RTW tickets) Many thanks. From LGA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaGuardia_Airport MPS? I've been trying to make a booking for a few days now. The Oneworld tool keeps switching to the Global Explorer fare during the planning process, even though the Oneworld Explorer fare was shown as valid before. Most of the time, I even see the Oneworld Explorer fare at the bottom. All flights are showing as valid, but still I get a message saying "Your itinerary exceeds the 34,000 mile limit on a Business or First class booking. To finalize your itinerary, please reduce the length of your trip."
Is this something that's known to cause problems? Any ideas on how to get around this? Is this jumping between fares something that's known to happen with the online tool? I made sure I've not included any flights with non-OW airlines, so it's probably not an accidental codeshare. Ideally, I'd like to book via the AA RTW Desk or with British Airways, but I just want to make sure that my route is bookable. The online tool is great for testing out different possibilities and options. I'm currently trying the route OSL-HEL-DEL-HKG-CMB-HKG-DPS-HKG-CTS-HND-HNL-ANC-LAX-JFK-MAD-OSL because I want to book the overwater with AA or BA. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...aee637996e.jpg |

This might by why it is reverting to the Explorer fare (not sure if this one has a segment limit per continent, but don't think so). |

Think the error is generic, when the tool doesn't like just about anything in the routing.

The example I gave probably wasn't the best, but it was the last one I remember that gave me this error. |
As Perisai mentioned, it seems to be an all-encompassing generic error that has nothing to do with the mileage limit in the case of a oneworld Explorer. In addition to the possible rule violation related to maximum sectors in Asia, other reasons I've found for the error appearing include the tool automatically choosing a flight that departs before the previous arrival and the tool automatically choosing an arrival in one city's airport (e.g. Orly) and a subsequent departure from another (e.g. Charles de Gaulle), thereby adding another sector.

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll take another look and see if it's user error on my part, though I'm sure there's a more straightforward explanation. It's good to know the error is generic.

Hi, first time booking one of these RTW fares. I'm trying to book the following:
MAA -xHKG- SIN SIN - xHKG- SFO SFO - NYC NYC - LON LON - LYS LYS - LON LON - DXB DXB -xDOH- LON LON - SYD (qantas "direct" - all on QF2) SYD - xHKG- MAA (the x before the airport just means that it is a transit) I keep getting the 34000 mile error but I want to book this using the OWE fare instead of the global explorer fare. Is there something wrong with this routing or just the website playing up? Thanks |

Is there something wrong with this routing or just the website playing up? Thanks At a quick glance, it looks as though you have five segments in Europe/M.E., while you're only allowed four. Change DXB-DOH-LHR to DXB-LHR and that should solve the problem. |
The oneworld RTW booking tool is almost a complete waste of time, far more often than not leading to utter frustration.
The 'Your itinerary exceeds to maximum 34,000 miles allowed' error is generic and seems to be the default when there's any kind of issue, 34K or not. For example, it will display if you've got 17 segments instead of 16 (and even when you've selected 16 segments, the stupid tool will often autoselect an indirect route, adding another sector without you even knowing, such is uselessness). In your case, I suggest selecting the flights you want. This will ensure you're not getting stuck on the above issue, plus other ones like, for example, you entering SFO-JFK-LHR-LYS, but the tool deciding what you really want it SFO-JFK/LGA-LGW/LHR-LYS (thereby, again, adding extra sectors). Check also that you're not inadvertently creating stopovers where you intend transits, due to lack of availability in the required fare class. If this step fails and you still get the error, try removing a couple of sectors at a time (e.g. enter SFO-LHR-LYS) and go from there in a process of elimination. And if all that fails, find a travel agent or phone the AA RTW desk whose number I don't have to hand but you'll likely find it in this thread or this one. |
