Eh? My current ticket is 44300 miles in First for US$9000 including taxes, which is only a little more per mile (and I didn't optimise it for maximum mileage) - in general I'm sure it is possible to do AONEx tickets for less per mile than your coach ticket.

Having said that, your routing doesn't fit well with any of the alliances, so for that specific list of destinations it may be hard to do better. You are choosing to travel of some of the, er, less well-renowned airlines of the world.

Given that most of your long-haul is in coach, you could get most of your destinations in coach for USD 3,370 + tax (say 12%). Alternatively, fly in business for USD 6779 + tax (Both ex-Indonesia on OneWorld.)

My take is to fly the odd segment in addition to the RTW itinerary.

The tax and fuel is normally the same for all classes - the only major variant that I'm aware of is the UK where, until some time in 2009 (when the tax structure is changed) it costs twice as much to depart in any class above economy as it does in economy.

The ticket I quoted above is an AONE3 ex-MNL bought from AA. The base price was US$8494, and the taxes were $589.40. The routing is:
MNL-xHKG-JFK-SFO-xDFW-ANC-DFW-xSEA-LHR-DXB-LHR-HEL-CDG-HKG-KIX-xHKG-MNL
