Overview of Oneworld Ruby Status

As announced in this thread, I have finished the overview of OW Ruby.

I have uploaded the chart on my homepage (Click here).

I have used the same layout for this chart I have used also for the Emerald and Sapphire Overview.

If you have any suggestion or if you find anything wrong, feel free to post is. As in the other threads, I am looking especially for data on Malev and Royal Jordanian, since the information available on their webpages are not the most informative ones.

But of course any form of feedback is highly appreciated since I am only Blue with BA.

I am also open for suggestion of points I should change or highlight in the overview.

Hi FLYGVA,

Congratulations on completing the Oneworld comparison charts!
It's really a great contribution to the FT community! (applause)

Again hoping you don't mind, may I comment as follows:

Miles / KM / points need for status [Year / 12 Month]
30 k / 30seg + 10k + 4 JAL flights (for JMB Crystal qualification)
Automatic if JGC member

Miles / KM / Points need for requalification
30 k / 30seg + 10k + 4 JAL flights (for JMB Crystal qualification)
Automatic if JGC member

% Bonus for Elite:
Both items below on JAL flights only:
50% - if with JMB Crystal qualifications
25% - if JGC member BUT not JMB Crystal, AND flyon points are less than 20K

Upgrade domestic / continental
4 certs

Upgrade international
1 cert

Lounge Access
Domestic : Y (5 domestic lounge entries for 5k mls, automatic if JGC member)
International : Y if JGC member

Lifetime status
Y if JGC member and JGC fees paid yearly

Others
>10 kg / 1 p luggage if with JMB Crystal qualifications
>20 kg / 2 p luggage if JGC member

You may have noticed that being a JGC (JAL Global Club) member makes things rather complicated. While checking the JMB program conditions for OW Ruby, I noticed some other additional comments / corrections needed for the Sapphire chart:

Miles / KM / points need for status [Year / 12 Month]
50k / 50seg + 15k + 4 JAL flights (for JMB Sapphire qualification)
20K / 30seg + 10K + 4 JAL flights if JGC member

Miles / KM / Points need for requalification
50k / 50seg + 15k + 4 JAL flights (for JMB Sapphire qualification)
20K / 30seg + 10K + 4 JAL flights if JGC member

% Bonus for Elite:
All items below on JAL flights only:
100% - if with full JMB Sapphire qualifications
50% - if JGC member AND JMB Crystal
25% - if JGC member BUT not JMB Crystal, AND flyon points are more than 20K but less than 30K

It seems very much that JGC is like a "premium version" of the JMB program; it may make information easier to arrange if a separate column in each of the OW Sapphire / Ruby charts is made for JGC membership.

Thank you very much, also for your feedback. Your very detailed feedback according to JAL was much appreciated. In the first time, I did not really understand the JGC membership, but after some rereading today, the penny has finally dropped.

I have decided to keep it in one column, since you could only join JGC after you have already qualified for Sapphire once in your life if I am correct. But I have used a different colour (red) for the JGC benefits.

And I have added, that as JGC you are at least JGC Crystal if you pay the annual fee of 5k

Yep, the color does make things easier to understand.

One last minor change is needed though, I think lifetime status for JGC members only applies for OW Ruby, because you are automatically Ruby even if you do not earn a single mile as long as you pay the JGC fee.

For OW Emerald and OW Sapphire however, technically there is no lifetime status as you will have to earn 80K / 20K miles respectively each year as a JGC member on top of the JGC fee.

Whew! Complicated isn't it? I don't have experience with other OW programs but JMB's probably the most convoluted one out there.

I have put a footer behind the lifetime status for all three status levels for JGC Crystal to clarify it.

Yep, you are right about JAL being convoluted with some sort of side level you could only reach after you have qualified for a certain regular level.

Anyway, the combination of points / miles or kilometres at oneworld make things not easier, esp. since the number of pts vary betw. the airlines concerning how many you earn (fixe number at BA, according to flewn mls at QF, a combination of both ...)

As Silver or Gold on QF you get an extra luggage allowance of one piece (Piece Concept) or 10kg (Weight Conept).
As Plat you get 15kg.

From Ruby chart for QF (and Emerald & Sapphire charts)

Upgrade international (only home carrier) (one way / one class)

for miles: dep. on distance bw. 12k - 96k pts standby only (one stop fligths count as two, e.g. SYD-SIN-LHR)

Don't agree with this. If ticketed SYD-LHR on one flight number a single upgrade applies for the complete SYD-LHR. It is not split into 2 sectors, even though the aircraft stops in SIN for pax transfers, fuel etc. You cannot apply for an upgrade for part of the ticketed flight (eg SYD-SIN)

Do other OW members than AY let Rubies take a guest to their lounges?

JAL according to JMB rules does not, but I have had a couple of times as JMB Crystal and flying on Y wherein JAL let me into the KIX Sakura lounge with guests. Once with 1 guest and another with 2.

Thank you for the input.
I have updated the chart.

I have mentioned the privileges of check in counters in others in the first columne, since this is a general privilege for all ow member airlines.

On QF, this is what I meant.

It would be great if 1W has a similar thing as *A for an extra weight limit for their elites. I use very often the 20kg+ for my *G Card.

JMB update

Some updates for JAL Mileage Bank that will become effective come Apr.2009.
A big devaluation from 2008 and even more complexity!

Upgrade domestic / continental / international (one way / one class)

JMB Crystal / JGC Crystal
10 upgrade points + 2 upgrade points per 10K fly on points (FOP) OR 10 flights after qualification

*Upgrade points required for:
domestic : 2 points
international : 5 to 12 points depending on class and route

Just found this thread. Pretty good idea. I think all 3 versions would make good stickies for this forum.

Anyway, to answer the question, when I was CX Silver (OW Ruby), I was allowed to bring my son into the BA Terraces Lounge at JFK. CX contracts with BA for use of that lounge, so it's treated as entering a CX lounge rather than a OW lounge. But I was able to bring my son in, who at the time did not have status with CX. In HKG, however, they wouldn't allow a guest in as Silver (CX gives its own Ruby members lounge access when flying CX) without the necessary 7500 mile deduction.
